PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jordon Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Doe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jordon Carter!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, David Hoff and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Doe shoots in looking for a takedown. Carter tries to sprawl out of it but Doe keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Carter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Carter throws a big counter head kick but Doe avoids it with no problem.

Carter tries to keep at a distance but Doe has taken the fight into the clinch.

Carter pulls guard effortlessly.
Doe is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Doe slips nicely into half guard.
Doe is controlling the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Doe decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Doe swats away the attempt to clinch by Carter.
Doe drops down looking for a counter takedown but Carter sprawls and moves away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Doe shoots for a double leg takedown but Carter sprawls well. He's pushed Doe's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Carter counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Doe thinking.
Carter slaps away a takedown attempt from Doe, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Doe. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Doe tries to clinch but Carter is having none of it.

Carter tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Carter stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Carter wants it to stay on the feet.
Doe tries for a takedown but Carter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Carter is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Carter closes the distance and clinches up with Doe, looking for a takedown. Carter pushes Doe against the cage but Doe circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Carter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Doe tries to avoid it but Carter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Doe to the ground. Doe escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Doe will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Doe looks to throw the jab but Carter is out of range.
Doe closes this distance looking for a takedown but Carter circles away.
Carter shoots in looking for a takedown. Doe tries to sprawl out of it but Carter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Doe manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Doe lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carter fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Doe on the side of the head.

Doe closes the distance and clinches.
Doe landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Doe has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Carter is trying to keep an underhook but Doe manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Doe knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carter on the ground.
Carter looks winded!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Carter on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Well, if Doe is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Doe wants to free his trapped foot but Carter is holding on for dear life with his legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that John Doe will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Carter throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Doe shoots for a double leg takedown but Carter sprawls well. He's pushed Doe's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Carter gets tackled into the cage by Doe. Doe maintains the clinch.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Carter.

Doe has closed the distance and engaged Carter in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Doe tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Carter is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Doe to keep the fight standing.
Carter stops a takedown attempt from Doe.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Doe. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Doe ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Doe no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Carter is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Doe is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Doe has escaped and now he's on top!

Doe has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Doe stands up from Carter's guard - Doe perhaps looking for a knockout.
Doe darts in looking for a takedown but Carter gets double underhooks and turns Doe into the cage.
Carter throws a push kick but Doe slaps the foot to one side.
Carter throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Doe tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Carter paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Doe changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Carter tries to avoid it but Doe manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Carter to the ground. Carter escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Doe counters with a series of strikes. Carter will be more careful next time no doubt.
Carter is breathing heavily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Doe or perhaps it was just good defense by Carter, which made it look bad.
Doe scores with a hook to the body. Carter takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

and Doe counters by clinching up.
Carter tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Doe avoids it.
Doe is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Carter can do to turn this around?

Carter jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Doe walks away with a smile on his face. Carter gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Doe fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Carter, pushing him back against the cage.

Doe drags the fight down to the ground.
Doe is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carter won't allow Doe to get back to his feet.
Carter wants to control from the top but Doe keeps moving.
Doe is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Carter is controlling him.
Doe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Doe seems keen to control Carter's posture.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Doe is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
John Doe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A head kick from Doe lands but Carter takes it in his stride.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carter throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Doe drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Doe throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Doe dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Doe throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Carter was covering up waiting for the punch and Doe finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Doe is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Doe might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
John Doe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Doe wants to control from the top but Carter keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Doe has Carter up against the cage in a clinch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Doe's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Doe dives in and grabs Carter's left leg, looking for a takedown. Carter pushes down on Doe's head and hops out.
Doe misses with a takedown attempt - Carter sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Doe shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Doe. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Carter displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Doe.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Carter leaves Doe with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Carter is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Carter tries to close the distance and clinch up but Doe swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Carter throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Carter throws a chopping leg kick but Doe manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Doe tries to clinch but Carter moves out of range.
Doe tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Carter defends well and Doe ends up having to push Carter into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Doe has Carter up against the cage in a clinch.
Carter is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Doe manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Carter got a little sloppy there for a moment and Doe has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carter has managed to get both his arms back between Doe's legs - danger averted.
Jordon Carter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

I would just about give that final round to Jordon Carter.
I think Doe has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
