The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Laffey moves into the clinch successfully.
Laffey keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Ayers's efforts to push away. Laffey trying to land knees to the body.
Laffey wants to get back to striking at distance but Ayers won't allow it.
Ayers tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Laffey avoids it. With the fighters up against the cage, Ayers throws an elbow but misses. Laffey working hard to break the clinch. Ayers is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Laffey pulls him back up using the underhooks. Ayers throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Laffey looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Laffey is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Ayers is looking for a takedown. Laffey breaks the clinch.
