Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kinho Santos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gypo Williams! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Williams decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Santos tries to roll over but Williams keeps him under control. Williams wants to lay and pray for a moment but Santos keeps working. Santos tries to get to full guard but Williams has control of the leg. Santos keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Santos wants to improve his position but Williams is controlling well.
Williams is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Williams passes into side control, despite Santos's attempt to control the position.
Williams has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Williams staying calm.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Williams will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santos shoots in looking for a takedown. Williams tries to sprawl out of it but Santos keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Williams manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Williams with a lazy takedown attempt and Santos counters with a nice double leg into side control. Williams won't be happy with that. Williams looks gassed! Santos stands up and we're back to a striking position. Santos shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Williams counters with a nice double leg into guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Santos pushes a forearm under Williams's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Williams is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
