Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Charles Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JR Adams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cooper's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, s.mouse - slap my elbow. Adams has chosen 'Looking For The Stone' by Dry Branch Fire Squad as his entrance music. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
26 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Charles Cooper! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, JR Adams! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Adams is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cooper's half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Adams with the ground and pound but Cooper uses the opportunity to regain guard. Adams works over Cooper with some ground and pound from guard. Adams pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cooper is keeping the position for now. Adams working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Adams scoring with punches to the head and body. Cooper is looking to stand up but Adams isn't so interested in that idea. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Adams throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Cooper working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Adams. Cooper is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Adams is looking to work some ground and pound but Cooper has wrist control. Adams wants to control from the top but Cooper keeps moving. Adams scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Cooper utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Adams trying to control but Cooper is working from the bottom. Adams might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cooper haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Cooper wants to get back to his feet but Adams is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Cooper working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Adams.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Cooper utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Adams slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Adams is looking to take a break and control but Cooper is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Adams postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Adams cracks Cooper with a big elbow. Cooper is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Adams misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Adams tries to move into full mount but can't pass Cooper's legs. Adams scores with punches from side control. Cooper prevents Adams from moving into mount. Cooper is not content to let Adams control the position. Cooper dodges the ground and pound from Adams. Adams trying to control the action but Cooper is working from the bottom. Cooper sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nice strikes from Adams there. Cooper wants to get back to his feet. Adams scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Adams wants to take a breather but Cooper is having none of it. Cooper keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Adams wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cooper keeps working. Well, if Adams is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Adams lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
JR Adams dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Cooper wants to clinch. Left hook, right uppercut from Adams.
It looks like Charles Cooper has been cut. Cooper is looking to clinch but Adams is avoiding it.
Cooper checks a leg kick. The fight stays on the outside here - Cooper looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Adams swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Cooper tries to counter by clinching up but Adams breaks away and moves out of range. We've been told by Cooper's head coaches at Miletich Xtreme Fighting Systems that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Adams scores with a shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cooper closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Cooper takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Adams keeps the fight on the outside. Cooper misses with a leg kick. Adams shoots in looking for a takedown but Cooper manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Adams's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Adams dives in and grabs Cooper's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cooper pushes down on Adams's head and hops out. Adams swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Cooper moves in looking to clinch but Adams pushes him off. Adams is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Cooper with a body shot. Cooper closes the distance looking to clinch and Adams counters with a single leg into guard. Cooper didn't expect that. Cooper pushes Adams off and scrambles back to his feet.
Cooper takes the fight into the clinch. Cooper gets underhooks to prevent Adams's takedown attempt.
Charles Cooper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of JR Adams. Cooper misses with an elbow strike.
Adams is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Cooper is keeping busy. Cooper misses with an elbow strike.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Adams manages to break the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Adams changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Cooper fails with an attempt to clinch.
Adams shoots in but no luck this time. Adams gets a takedown into half guard. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Adams connects with a nice short shot to Cooper's temple.
Cooper is rocked! Cooper wants to get back to full guard but Adams has mounted him! Oh Cooper is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Adams connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Adams lands a big elbow - Cooper is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Cooper is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). JR Adams! JR Adams was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
