The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Birch gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Gunn is trying to pull guard but Birch has him pressed against the cage.
Birch is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
A knee to the head by Birch.
Birch connects with a knee to the head.
Birch landing knees to the head.
It looks like Billy Gunn has been cut.
Gunn has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Birch is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Birch has Gunn pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Gunn is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Birch - that's hurt Gunn badly! Oh, another knee lands and Gunn is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Gunn doesn't seem to be complaining.
