PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joonas Ragnarsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Fogle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joonas Ragnarsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Fogle!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Jonathan Paton and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ragnarsson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fogle but Fogle pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Fogle scores with a three punch combo!

Ragnarsson gets a clinch.
Fogle tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Ragnarsson's elbow.
Ragnarsson manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Fogle wants to get back to striking at distance but Ragnarsson won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ragnarsson looking to throw knees to the head but Fogle is blocking nicely.

Ragnarsson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Fogle connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Fogle works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Ragnarsson moves forwards but Fogle connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Fogle lands with a shot to the body.
Ragnarsson bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Ragnarsson on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Fogle swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ragnarsson takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Sloppy strikes from Fogle. Those never looked like landing.
Ragnarsson misses with a takedown attempt
and Ragnarsson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Ragnarsson misses with a double jab.
Ragnarsson tries to close the distance and clinch but Fogle swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Fogle throws a series of punches but Ragnarsson moves out of range.
A counter left hand to the body from Ragnarsson misses its target.
Ragnarsson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ragnarsson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joonas Ragnarsson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ragnarsson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fogle as he jumps to the side.
Fogle misses with a two punch combination.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ragnarsson closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Ragnarsson moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Fogle scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Ragnarsson moves into range and clinches up with Fogle.
Ragnarsson prevents a body shot from Fogle.
Fogle tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Ragnarsson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ragnarsson pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Fogle smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Fogle ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Ragnarsson shoots in looking for a takedown but Fogle manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ragnarsson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Ragnarsson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fogle tries to avoid it but Ragnarsson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fogle to the ground. Fogle escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Fogle throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Fogle rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ragnarsson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ragnarsson forces Fogle back against the cage and clinches.
Ragnarsson tries for a takedown. No joy.
Ragnarsson misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Fogle.

Ragnarsson jumps guard.
Fogle slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Ragnarsson throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Ragnarsson wants to sweep but no luck.
Fogle wants to stand but Ragnarsson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Ragnarsson is trying to control the position but Fogle postures up.
Ragnarsson wants to stand up but Fogle is controlling him.
Ragnarsson throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ragnarsson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ragnarsson.
Fogle cracks Ragnarsson with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Steve Fogle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fogle will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Nice sprawl there from Fogle as Ragnarsson shoots in.
Fogle scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Ragnarsson takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Fogle moves into range and connects with a jab.
Ragnarsson goes for a double leg but Fogle avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Fogle continues to drive forward.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ragnarsson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fogle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Fogle dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Fogle ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Ragnarsson takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Ragnarsson has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ragnarsson there as he acknowledges the shot.
Fogle keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Fogle let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Ragnarsson looks for a takedown but Fogle sprawls well.
Fogle uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Ragnarsson has time to react.
Fogle scores with a hook to the body. Ragnarsson takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Ragnarsson takes a jab right on the kisser.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fogle lands a nice looking body shot.

Fogle lands with a cross.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ragnarsson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Fogle avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A little jabbing left from Fogle on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Ragnarsson takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Fogle tests Ragnarsson's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Fogle cracks Ragnarsson with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Fogle has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Fogle throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Horrible takedown attempt by Ragnarsson or perhaps it was just good defense by Fogle, which made it look bad.
Ragnarsson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fogle circles away.
Good standup being displayed there by Fogle as he connects with a hook.
Fogle digs a good hook to Ragnarsson's body.
Fogle lands a really nice looking cross but Ragnarsson seems unphased.


Ragnarsson is rocked!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
A jab lands there for Fogle.
Oh Ragnarsson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ragnarsson gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Fogle gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Steve Fogle!
