PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Max Avery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Collins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Collins's choice of entrance music: I'm Shipping Up To Boston - Dropkick Murphys. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Max Avery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michael Collins!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A shot to the body from Avery misses
and Collins counters with a one-two to the body.
Sloppy strikes from Avery. Those never looked like landing.
A head kick misses from Avery.
Collins unleashes a big counter combination but Avery bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Avery pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Collins moves out of range as Avery throws a body kick.
Collins changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Avery throws a body kick that misses
and Collins counters with a one-two to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A punch combination from Avery misses.
As Avery backs off Collins throws a huge counter combo but Avery manages to avoid it all.
Avery throws a head kick that misses.

Avery clinches up with Collins and pushes him back against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Collins tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Avery smiles and moves away.
Avery misses with a few strikes there.
Collins with the counter takedown but Avery avoids it easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Avery breaks the clinch.
Avery lands a nice shot to the body.
Avery throws a sloppy head kick and Collins moves out of range easily.

Avery forces Collins back against the cage and clinches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Avery digs a right hand underneath Collins's ribcage. Collins let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Collins can't break the clinch.

Avery pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Avery throws a left and a right that both miss
and Collins counters with a left and a right that stings Avery.
Collins's coach down at Werewolf's cave was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Collins's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Avery throws a sloppy head kick
and Collins counters with a one-two to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Avery gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Avery has hold of one of Collins's legs. Collins is fighting the takedown attempt but Avery gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Avery stands and steps away. Collins gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Avery forces Collins back against the cage and clinches.
Collins is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Collins looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
A frustrated look appears on Collins's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Collins tries to break the clinch but Avery is controlling the position.
Collins wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Collins is trying to push Avery away but Avery has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Collins goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Avery breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Avery closes the distance and clinches.

Avery breaks from the clinch.
Avery really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Avery pushes Collins up against the cage in a clinch.
Collins is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Avery pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Avery dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Avery misses with a double jab
and Collins counters with a two punch combo.
Avery misses with a head kick.

Avery drives through with a takedown into Collins's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Avery throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Collins works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Collins not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Avery is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Collins can do to turn this around?

Avery has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Avery's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Avery connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

and Collins counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Avery moves into range and connects with a jab.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Avery.
Collins tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Avery is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Collins is forced to tap! Great finish!
