Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Peter Solberg! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Miilo Nurkkanen! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Arvi Lind and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Solberg displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nurkkanen. Solberg looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit. Nice sprawl there from Solberg as Nurkkanen shoots in. Nurkkanen tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Solberg defends well and Nurkkanen ends up having to push Solberg into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Solberg is looking to counter with a body kick. Peter Solberg has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Miilo Nurkkanen. Nurkkanen gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Solberg thumps Nurkkanen with a low kick. Nurkkanen on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Solberg throws a nice inside leg kick. Nurkkanen shoots in but Solberg avoids the takedown attempt easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nurkkanen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Solberg sprawls well initially but Nurkkanen persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Solberg trying to control here.
Nurkkanen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nurkkanen postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Solberg to stand up. Nurkkanen looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Nurkkanen rushes Solberg and presses him up against the cage. Nurkkanen gets control of Solberg's arms and successfully pulls guard. Nurkkanen will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Nurkkanen working for a triangle but Solberg defends it easily.
Solberg got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nurkkanen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Solberg has managed to get both his arms back between Nurkkanen's legs - danger averted. Solberg slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nurkkanen wants to get back to his feet but Solberg drags him back down. Nurkkanen tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Nurkkanen is trying to stand. He's onto all fours with Solberg on his back. Solberg looks like he's slipping off but he's actually tansitioning to a beautiful armbar! Nurkkanen has to tap out to a very impressive submission!
