PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rham Kota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonid Spartak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kota comes into the arena with Won't Let You Down - Chamillionaire blaring out of the sound system. Leonid Spartak has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rham Kota!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 26 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leonid Spartak!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Konstantin Menshow and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kota fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Spartak sprawls well initially but Kota persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Kota seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kota is trying to work for a kimura but Spartak is defending well.
Kota prevents Spartak from improving his position.
Kota lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Spartak looks like he's trying to stand up.
Nice strikes from Kota there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Spartak can do anything to dispel that myth.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kota is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Spartak has hold of Kota's hands but Kota slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Spartak avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kota.

Kota is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Kota is nestled in close to Spartak, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Kota is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Kota throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Kota thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Kota is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Kota is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Spartak is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Spartak has escaped and now he's on top!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Spartak stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kota swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kota is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Spartak defends well.

Kota has his foot on Spartak's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Spartak works his way back into a safe position though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kota is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Spartak defends well.
Spartak really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kota. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Spartak has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kota is proving hard to escape from.

Kota had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Spartak defends it easily.

Kota working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Spartak doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Spartak manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Spartak wants to control from the top but Kota keeps moving.
Spartak tries to free his leg and advance position but Kota is retaining full guard.
Spartak postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Spartak controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Kota looking for a guillotine here but Spartak defends easily.

Kota has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Spartak can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kota is looking for a triangle but Spartak pushes his legs off easily.
Spartak trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Spartak is looking to stand up but Kota won't let him.

Spartak must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Spartak avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Kota escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Spartak gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kota is breathing heavily.
Spartak trying to control but Kota is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rham Kota dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Spartak fails with a takedown attempt.

Kota closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kota lands in his opponent's guard.

Spartak scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Kota decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Kota is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Spartak can do to turn this around?
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Spartak is looking to control Kota's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Spartak avoid being mounted?

Spartak is trying to get back to full guard.
Spartak on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Kota working over Spartak with some ground and pound. Spartak looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Kota lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Rham Kota overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Spartak looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Spartak is breathing heavily.
Kota working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.


It looks like Leonid Spartak has been cut.
Kota working Spartak over with strikes.
Kota lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Spartak! More strikes land and this one is all over! Kota jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!

During a confident post fight interview, Rham Kota thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
