PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gunner Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Slade Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gunner Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 2, fighting out of London, Slade Wilson!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Johanna Lukiainen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wilson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Harris avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Wilson.

Wilson wants to work for an arm triangle but Harris is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Harris flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Wilson looks to land a strike but Harris avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Wilson wants to stand but Harris has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Harris not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wilson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Harris manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Wilson has Harris in his guard.

Harris trying to control but Wilson is working from the bottom.

Harris controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Harris works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wilson is trying to maintain the position but Harris is very close to passing his half guard.
Wilson felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Harris trying to mount his opponent but Wilson defends it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Harris trying to control the pace.
Harris seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Wilson is looking to escape.
Wilson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Harris. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Harris not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Wilson is in trouble now - Harris has advanced to mount!
Harris looking to control but Wilson is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Harris raining down hammerfists from mount.
Harris has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Harris takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Wilson throwing hammer fists to the chest of Harris. What's that going to do exactly?

Harris is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Wilson has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Wilson!
Wilson wants to control from the top but Harris keeps moving.
Wilson prevents Harris from getting back to his feet.
Harris looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Harris will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Wilson has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Harris to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Wilson is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Harris pulls down on the head and he's put Wilson to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Gunner Harris!
