Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Danial Griffin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vasco Vasconcelos! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Thiago Cunha and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vasconcelos throws a head kick that misses. Vasconcelos drives through and clinches with Griffin against the cage.
Vasconcelos manages to break the clinch.

It looks like Danial Griffin has been cut. Vasconcelos closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Griffin did well to prevent Vasconcelos getting side control. Griffin avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Vasconcelos. Vasconcelos wants to get back to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Griffin keeping hold of Vasconcelos's head, controlling as best he can. Vasconcelos controlling the action here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vasconcelos wants to stand but Griffin has his arm trapped. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Griffin trying to remain calm as Vasconcelos controls from the top position. Griffin is looking to reverse the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Griffin has one of Vasconcelos's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage. Vasconcelos decides to stand back up. Vasconcelos steps back and let's Griffin get back to his feet. The fight moves into the clinch position. Vasconcelos tries to score a body lock takedown but Griffin shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Griffin jumps guard but Vasconcelos turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Griffin is trying to trip Vasconcelos. He has hold of a leg but Vasconcelos is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Griffin persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Vasconcelos seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vasconcelos is trying to keep Griffin in close.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Vasconcelos tries to strike from the bottom.
Vasconcelos looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Griffin puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Vasconcelos looking for submissions off his back. Griffin trying to control from half guard but Vasconcelos is working away. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Vasconcelos scores with a takedown into Griffin's guard. Vasconcelos missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Vasconcelos trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Vasconcelos wants to pass the guard but Griffin is keeping the position. Vasco Vasconcelos has got the better of the ground game so far. Griffin wants to sweep but no luck. Vasconcelos is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Griffin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Vasconcelos trying to stand up but can't free himself from Griffin's guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Vasconcelos closes the distance and pushes Griffin back into the cage. Vasconcelos escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Griffin uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Vasconcelos. Griffin stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Griffin wants it to stay on the feet. Vasconcelos swings for the body but Griffin moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. No luck for Vasconcelos with that takedown attempt. It appears Griffin was looking to counter with a kick there. Vasconcelos throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Griffin. Nice jab there from Vasconcelos. Vasconcelos has managed to clinch.
Griffin is trying to pull guard but Vasconcelos has him pressed against the cage. Vasconcelos manages to break the clinch.
Vasconcelos gets a takedown into half guard. Griffin has one foot on Vasconcelos's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Vasconcelos is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vasconcelos fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Griffin avoids it really well and circles away. Danial Griffin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vasco Vasconcelos. Vasconcelos misses with a double jab.
Griffin is looking for a counter combo. Vasconcelos closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Vasconcelos prevents Griffin from breaking the clinch. Vasconcelos looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Vasconcelos drags the fight down to the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Griffin stops Vasconcelos from standing up. Vasconcelos wants to control but Griffin passes easily into half guard.
Vasconcelos has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Vasconcelos wants to control but Griffin is keeping busy and won't allow it.
