Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Victor Selassie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lars Fowler! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Selassie scores with a nice right hand.
Fowler throws a right and a left that both miss. Fowler wants to clinch up but Selassie keeps it at a distance. Selassie punishes Fowler's body with a nice straight punch. Fowler tries to clinch but Selassie moves out of range. Fowler misses with a hook. Lars Fowler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fowler tests Selassie's chin there with a solid looking shot.
It looks like Victor Selassie has been cut. Fowler gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Selassie is trying to force a seperation but Fowler has the dominant position. I was talking to Selassie's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Selassie manages to break the clinch.
Selassie scores with a sloppy right hand. Fowler should have avoided that one. Selassie circles away from the clinch attempt.
Selassie cracks Fowler with a right hand to the side of the head. Fowler throws out a loose jab but Selassie uses good head movement to avoid it. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A cross from Fowler lands. Fowler gets a clinch. Fowler swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Selassie's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Fowler digs a good hook to Selassie's body.
Fowler misses with a series of wild punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fowler tries to clinch there but Selassie circles away.
Fowler tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Fowler checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. A jab from Selassie finds it's way through Fowler's defenses. Selassie throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Fowler was covering up waiting for the punch and Selassie finishes the takedown easily into guard. Fowler is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Selassie dives into side control.
Selassie is looking to take a break and control but Fowler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Selassie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Fowler knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Selassie in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fowler tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Fowler squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
BOOM! Selassie connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Selassie looking to control but Fowler is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. This has been an exciting period of action! Selassie is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Fowler is surviving well by controlling Selassie's body position as best he can. Selassie content just to control the position here. A nice elbow there by Selassie. Selassie controlling the position easily from mount. Fowler wants to try and get back to his feet. Selassie scoring with strikes but Fowler is staying in there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Selassie sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Selassie is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Fowler is surviving well by controlling Selassie's body position as best he can. Selassie lands a big shot there that rocks Fowler but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Fowler is in a horrible position here. Selassie smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Fowler is trying to stand. Selassie content just to control the position here. Selassie lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Fowler hang on? The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. You get the feeling that Fowler really doesn't like being in this position too much.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Selassie tries to control but Fowler wriggling away. Selassie raining down hammerfists from mount. You get the feeling that Fowler really doesn't like being in this position too much.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Selassie is in the full mount, landing strikes. Selassie lands a heavy elbow. Selassie lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Fowler hang on?
Fowler is rocked! Selassie softens up his opponent with a couple of shots there and then CRACK! One massive shot lands there and Fowler is out cold! Selassie jumps to his feet and celebrates on the cage with the fans, who are, quite frankly, going absolutely mental!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Victor Selassie! A pretty intense looking Victor Selassie took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.
