Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rob Base (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marshal Erickson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marshal Erickson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rob Base!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marshal Erickson!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, David Schapiro and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Base misses with a double jab.
Erickson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Base to the mat! Base manages to get full guard.
Erickson wants to control from the top but Base keeps moving.
Erickson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Base looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Base looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Base!
Erickson manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Erickson moves into full mount! Base won't be happy about that!
Erickson goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Base is on top in guard.
Erickson throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Erickson wants to sweep here but Base controlling him for the moment.
Base drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Base jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Base could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Base keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Erickson throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Erickson swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Base is now in Erickson's guard. A big mistake from Erickson there, giving up the dominant position!
Base with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Erickson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Base manages to get himself to full guard.
Erickson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Erickson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Erickson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Base is looking for a sweep.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Base wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Erickson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Base wants to control but Erickson postures up.
Base regains half guard there - taking advantage of Erickson's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Erickson is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rob Base seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Erickson.

Erickson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Base, who protects the arm well.
Erickson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Base has escaped the position, nice work there.

Base is trying to improve his position.
Base throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

Erickson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Erickson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Base knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Base manages to work his way to half guard, despite Erickson's best efforts.

Erickson is looking to take a break and control but Base is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Erickson is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Base!
Erickson wants to control the action but instead Base gets a body lock and reverses into Erickson's guard! Nice work!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Erickson is looking to reverse the position.
Erickson tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Erickson looks to move to half guard but instead Base has passed into mount! Damn!
Erickson tries to improve his position but instead Base has taken his back!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Base is looking for the choke from the back position but Erickson is controlling his hands well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Rob Base will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Erickson sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Base is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Erickson has taken his back.
Erickson is cranking Base's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Base! He's tightened the choke and Base is tapping out!
