Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Niklas Nyysonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Todd Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Niklas Nyysonen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Todd Cannon! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Sergei Dronov and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nyysonen closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cannon's guard. Nyysonen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Cannon keeping moving, preventing Nyysonen from controlling successfully. Cannon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nyysonen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Nyysonen won't allow Cannon to sweep him here. Cannon keeping moving, preventing Nyysonen from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cannon looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Nyysonen trying to control the position from guard on top but Cannon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Cannon told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Cannon tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cannon pulls Nyysonen in close to his closed guard and prevents Nyysonen from doing any damage or advancing position. Cannon is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nyysonen is aware though and is defending well. Nyysonen is pushing down on Cannon's leg trying to pass to half guard. Cannon is fighting to maintain full guard but Nyysonen has managed to sneak the leg through. Nyysonen wants to control but Cannon is keeping him busy. Cannon wants to improve his position but Nyysonen is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cannon punching from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Cannon is staying active underneath Nyysonen, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Nyysonen thows a huge punch but Cannon dodges it nicely.
Nyysonen keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Cannon is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Nyysonen's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Nyysonen's back! Nyysonen trying to control the position but Cannon manages to sink in the hooks. Cannon patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Cannon not allowing Nyysonen to control his hands. Cannon is trying to stick to Nyysonen's back but Nyysonen is turning into Cannon. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Cannon's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Nyysonen. Nyysonen is looking to stand up but Cannon won't let him. Cannon trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cannon working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Nyysonen has passed into half guard!
Cannon taking some punishment here, with Nyysonen in his half guard. Nyysonen perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cannon trying to control from the bottom.
Cannon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Nyysonen takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Cannon is trying to get back to full guard. Nyysonen is working for a submission of some sort.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nyysonen is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Cannon is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Nyysonen pulls his head out easily. Cannon makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Cannon. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Cannon keeping moving, preventing Nyysonen from controlling successfully. Cannon looking for subs off his back but Nyysonen has passed one foot through into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Niklas Nyysonen will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Nyysonen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cannon does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Niklas Nyysonen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Cannon looking for submissions off his back. Nyysonen is trying to work for a kimura but Cannon is defending well.

Cannon is trying to maintain the position but Nyysonen is very close to passing his half guard. Nyysonen trying to control the pace. Nyysonen is looking to take a break and control but Cannon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Nyysonen is working for a kimura but Cannon is defending it quite comfortably.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Cannon manages to get to full guard.
Cannon is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Nyysonen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Cannon has his foot on Nyysonen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nyysonen works his way back into a safe position though. Nyysonen wants to pass the guard but Cannon is keeping the position. Cannon is looking to cinch up a triangle. Nyysonen throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Cannon's body to avoid the submission. Cannon has instead reached around Nyysonen's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Cannon arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
