Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pookie Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sami Hyypia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jackson comes to the cage accompanied by Ride The Train. Hyypia comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Al Bowlly - Hang out the stars in Indiana kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pookie Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Sami Hyypia!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Sam Margolis and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hyypia changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Nice defenses there by Jackson.
Jackson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jackson throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Hyypia misses with a left hand
and Jackson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Hyypia works the jab nicely.
Jackson throws a leg kick but Hyypia sees it coming and moves out of range.

Jackson lands a head shot.
Jackson looks to throw the jab but Hyypia is out of range.

It looks like Pookie Jackson has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hyypia breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jackson misses with an uppercut.
Hyypia swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Jackson fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Hyypia.

Jackson fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Hyypia ducks under a wild hook from Jackson.
Jackson is looking to slow Hyypia down with leg kicks.
Jackson scores with a nice body kick.
Jackson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Pookie Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sloppy strikes from Jackson. Those never looked like landing.

Jackson thows a body kick. Hyypia tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Jackson scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jackson throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Hyypia cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Hyypia blocks a head kick by Jackson.
Hyypia has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Jackson.

Jackson tries to bum rush Hyypia with a series of wild strikes but Hyypia uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Jackson throws a head kick that misses.
Jackson has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Condor Training in the buildup to the fight.
Good work by Hyypia as he checks the leg kick.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Jackson lands a big head kick that sends Hyypia tumbling to the mat! Jackson takes a step backwards and waves Hyypia back to his feet - he wants the finish!


It looks like Sami Hyypia has been cut.
Jackson throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Hyypia connects with a right hand. Jackson shakes it off.

Hyypia fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jackson manages to avoid it.
Hyypia moves out of range as Jackson strikes.
Jackson misses with a body punch
and Jackson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Hyypia connects with a crisp jab.
Jackson looks to land a body kick but Hyypia moved away.

Hyypia rushes Jackson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Jackson lands a shot to the body.
A body shot lands from Jackson.
Jackson lands a nice uppercut.
Jackson struggles to land a body shot inside as Hyypia controls his hands.
Hyypia blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Hyypia escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jackson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hyypia appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hyypia with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Jackson to score with a decent uppercut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jackson throws a quick inside leg kick.
Jackson misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Hyypia counters with a good, hard body kick but Jackson shrugs it off.
Jackson throws a push kick but Hyypia slaps the foot to one side.
Jackson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jackson missing with a left hand there. Hyypia was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
A big right from Jackson misses.
Jackson misses with an uppercut
and Hyypia counters with a right hand to the body.
Hyypia connects with a right hand. Jackson shakes it off.
Hyypia clobbers Jackson with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Jackson doesn't manage to clinch there - Hyypia circles away.
Hyypia is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nice uppercut lands for Hyypia. That snapped Jackson's head back.
Hyypia throws the left hand but Jackson avoids the punch easily.
Hyypia is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Jackson had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Hyypia lands with a cross.
Jackson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pookie Jackson dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Jackson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hyypia manages to avoid it.
Hyypia might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Pookie Jackson is winning the standup battle so far.

Hyypia tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Jackson here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Jackson looks to throw a body kick
and Hyypia counters with a massive hook, right on the button! He's out cold! Damn, that was naaaaaasty! Hopefully he'll be OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Sami Hyypia!
After the fight, Sami Hyypia was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
