PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Salvatore Giuliano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seth Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Seth Coleman will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Salvatore Giuliano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Seth Coleman!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Giuliano fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Coleman sprawls well initially but Giuliano persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Coleman pushes Giuliano off looking to stand but Giuliano dives back in and keeps control.
Giuliano drops an elbow to the side of Coleman's head.
Coleman is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Giuliano works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Coleman is trying to get back to half guard.
Coleman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Giuliano. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Giuliano has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Coleman is trying to work for a sweep but Giuliano has mounted him!

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Can Coleman hold on?! Giuliano is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.

Giuliano looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Giuliano controls the position.
Coleman covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
What can Coleman do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Coleman seems to have recovered his senses.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Giuliano is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Giuliano gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Giuliano gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Giuliano apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Coleman goes for a double leg but Giuliano avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Giuliano continues to drive forward.
Giuliano drops down looking for a counter takedown but Coleman sprawls and moves away.

Coleman gets caught flat footed, as Giuliano shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Giuliano lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Giuliano stays in close to Coleman's body and controls the position.
Giuliano seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Coleman for as long as he can get away with.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Giuliano has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Giuliano's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Giuliano continues to stall.
Coleman is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Giuliano is controlling him.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Giuliano won't allow Coleman to sweep him here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

and Giuliano counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Giuliano.
Giuliano stays in close to Coleman's body and controls the position.
Giuliano is working Coleman over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Coleman can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Giuliano controls the pace.
Giuliano makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Coleman wants to stand and escape but Giuliano is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Coleman tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Giuliano defends well and Coleman ends up having to push Giuliano into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Giuliano lands a big shot there that rocks Coleman but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
