PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Fred Alsop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sambulo Yeboah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yeboah has chosen Lionel Richie - All Night Long as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fred Alsop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sambulo Yeboah!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alsop shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Alsop connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Yeboah ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Alsop moves away.
Alsop comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Sloppy strikes from Yeboah. Those never looked like landing.
A slow jab from Yeboah misses its intended target.
Alsop chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Yeboah has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Yeboah throws a series of punches but Alsop avoids them all with ease.
Alsop misses with the combination.

Alsop moves into range and clinches up with Yeboah.

Yeboah manages to pull guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Alsop trying to control the position from guard on top but Yeboah is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Alsop is stalling in the full guard.

Yeboah has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Alsop is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Yeboah.

Yeboah tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Yeboah is pushing Alsop's head away, looking to escape. Alsop manages to hold on to the position though.

Alsop thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Alsop tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Yeboah is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Alsop has just dragged him back down to the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yeboah is trying to get back to half guard.
Yeboah is trying to get back to his feet.
Yeboah regains half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Yeboah is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Alsop pulls his head out easily.
Alsop wants to take a breather but Yeboah is having none of it.
Yeboah moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Yeboah had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Alsop defends it easily.
Alsop pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Yeboah is keeping the position for now.

Yeboah has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Alsop can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Alsop avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Yeboah escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alsop gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Yeboah is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Alsop sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Yeboah's guard.

Alsop not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Alsop is working for a submission of some sort.
Alsop seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Yeboah pushes Alsop off looking to stand but Alsop dives back in and keeps control.

Yeboah is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Alsop pulls his head out easily.

Alsop is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Alsop not doing much here.
Alsop is trying to control the action in half guard but Yeboah is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Alsop is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Yeboah is just riding it out for now. Alsop eventually gives up the hold.

Yeboah actively working from the bottom here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Yeboah regains full guard. Nicely done.
Alsop advances to half guard.
Yeboah is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fred Alsop dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Alsop takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Alsop fails with an attempt to clinch.
Alsop scores with a shot to the body.
Yeboah checks a leg kick nicely.
Yeboah drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Yeboah takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Yeboah throws a series of punches but Alsop moves out of range.
Alsop misses the shot to the body.
Yeboah looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Donk. Alsop catches Yeboah right on the button with a cross.
Yeboah throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Alsop counters by clinching up.
Alsop throws an elbow but it misses.
Alsop working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Yeboah decides to pull guard.

Alsop got a little sloppy there for a moment and Yeboah has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alsop has managed to get both his arms back between Yeboah's legs - danger averted.
Yeboah preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Yeboah looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Alsop passes into side control.
Alsop looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Yeboah is avoiding damage well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yeboah is looking for a sweep.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Alsop has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Yeboah is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Alsop yanks on the arm and Yeboah is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Alsop.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Fred Alsop!
Fred Alsop seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
