Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Erik Bjorkman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Sammy Gravano! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bjorkman scores with a nice right hand.
Gravano takes a body punch but keeps moving. Bjorkman lands with a shot to the body. Gravano on the wrong end of a nice hook. Nice uppercut lands for Bjorkman. That snapped Gravano's head back.
Gravano looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bjorkman is fending him off so far but Gravano persists. Nope, Bjorkman circles away and we're back to standing. Gravano tries to clinch there but Bjorkman circles away.
Bjorkman connects with a looping right hand.
Gravano takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Gravano has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Bjorkman fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Gravano throws a leg kick that misses. Bjorkman takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Gravano tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Bjorkman is able to avoid easily. Gravano throws a leg kick and Bjorkman counters with a straight right hand. Bjorkman throws out a powerful jab.
Gravano is rocked!
That's one minute gone in the round. Bjorkman throws a shot to the body.
Bjorkman is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Jab by Bjorkman. Bjorkman connects with a right hand. Gravano shakes it off. Gravano is still on wobbly legs! Can Bjorkman finish him? Gravano throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Gravano seems to have recovered his senses. Gravano has a takedown stuffed. Bjorkman has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Nice cross by Bjorkman. Gravano takes a body punch but keeps moving. Gravano throws an off balance right hand
and Bjorkman counters with a lovely straight right hand! Bjorkman lands a glancing blow to the side of Gravano's head. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Gravano looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Bjorkman! Gravano wants to control but Bjorkman is keeping him busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gravano working the ground and pound. Gravano working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Gravano in side control, just content to control the action for now. Gravano wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bjorkman keeps working.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bjorkman takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Bjorkman wants to control but Gravano postures up. Gravano works to advance to full mount. Bjorkman defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Gravano throwing strikes here but Bjorkman is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Gravano breaks from Bjorkman's wrist control and lands an elbow. Gravano working the ground and pound effectively.
Gravano lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Gravano drops a big elbow. That's hurt Bjorkman! More shots from Gravano and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
