PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between DeMarcus DeSilva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julio Cesar Chavez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Julio Cesar Chavez struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 157.4lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Julio Cesar Chavez!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chavez moves out of range of the leg kick from DeSilva.
Some wild striking there from DeSilva.
DeSilva misses the jab.
Chavez looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Chavez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
DeSilva keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
DeSilva tries to counter by clinching up but Chavez breaks away and moves out of range.
DeSilva tests Chavez's chin there with a solid looking shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

DeSilva fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Chavez looks to land a body kick but DeSilva moved away.
DeSilva lands with a good body shot.
Chavez blocks a head kick by DeSilva.

Chavez bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

DeSilva wants to control the pace but Chavez is squirming around nicely.

DeSilva goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Chavez is on top in guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


DeSilva misses with a hook. Chavez ducked under it nicely.
Chavez lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Chavez's coach down at The Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Chavez's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

DeSilva throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Chavez sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Chavez appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
DeSilva takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Chavez paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
DeSilva sizes up Chavez with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
DeSilva throws a shot from downtown. Chavez moves away and avoids it.
Chavez on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
DeSilva swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Chavez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

It seemed like Chavez was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Chavez chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before DeSilva can pounce on him.

Chavez's hands are dropping dangerously low here and DeSilva connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Chavez scrambles back to his feet.

Chavez uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from DeSilva.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
DeSilva feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Chavez's calf.

Chavez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. DeSilva tries to avoid it but Chavez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag DeSilva to the ground. DeSilva escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

DeSilva wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chavez keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


DeSilva tries to score a power double leg takedown but Chavez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten DeSilva somewhat.
Chavez let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
DeSilva connects with a good right hand that stumbles Chavez. Chavez circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Chavez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

DeSilva is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Chavez defends well.

DeSilva looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Chavez has picked DeSilva up and slammed him! DeSilva can't keep hold of the triangle and Chavez manages to pass to side control!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

I would just about give that final round to Julio Cesar Chavez.
Well DeSilva has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
