PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Delphino Atlantis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pithe Canthropus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Atlantis comes into the arena with Refused - New Noise blaring out of the sound system. Canthropus has chosen Pizzaman - Trippin' On Sunshine as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Delphino Atlantis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 39 - 35 - 2, fighting out of London, Pithe Canthropus!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Donatello Bradman and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Atlantis closes the distance and pushes Canthropus back into the cage.

Atlantis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Canthropus will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Atlantis showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Canthropus.
Canthropus throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Atlantis misses with a wild combination.
Atlantis lands a head kick!

Atlantis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Atlantis works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Atlantis throws a strike aimed at the side of Canthropus's head but Canthropus avoids it well.
Canthropus is looking to regain half guard here but Atlantis keeps moving and retains side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Atlantis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Canthropus keeps working.
Atlantis misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Canthropus is trying to improve his position.
Atlantis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Atlantis is staying tight to Canthropus's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Atlantis sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Canthropus is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Atlantis throws an elbow but Canthropus slips to the side and avoids it well.
Canthropus dodges the ground and pound from Atlantis.

Still in half guard, Atlantis seems content to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Atlantis is nestled in close to Canthropus, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Atlantis is trying to control. Canthropus wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Atlantis is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Atlantis passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Canthropus!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Atlantis tries to control but Canthropus wriggling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Canthropus throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Atlantis has Canthropus up against the cage in a clinch.
Canthropus swings wildly with an uppercut but Atlantis uses good head movement to avoid it.
Atlantis lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Canthropus backwards.
Atlantis on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Atlantis.
Atlantis tries for a takedown but Canthropus manages to get underhooks.

Atlantis is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Canthropus can't fight it off and eventually Atlantis manages to take the fight to the floor. Canthropus looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Canthropus swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Delphino Atlantis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Atlantis is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Canthropus's half guard.
Canthropus is not content to let Atlantis control the position.
Atlantis perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Atlantis is working for a kimura but Canthropus is defending it quite comfortably.

Atlantis thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Canthropus's head.

A bone on bone clash there as Atlantis blocks the leg kick.
Pithe Canthropus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Canthropus throws a body punch but Atlantis moves out of range.

Canthropus misses with a looping left.
Atlantis throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Canthropus! But no joy.
Atlantis connects with a nice looking jab.
Atlantis gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Canthropus.
Atlantis stalks Canthropus and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Canthropus's face. Canthropus staggers backwards, shaken.
Atlantis takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Canthropus takes a swing at Atlantis's ribcage but misses.
Canthropus closes this distance looking for a takedown but Atlantis circles away.
Atlantis will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Atlantis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Canthropus looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Atlantis tries to counter with a takedown but Canthropus is quick to defend against it.

Atlantis rushes Canthropus and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Canthropus gets underhooks to prevent Atlantis's takedown attempt.
Canthropus wants to take the fight to the mat but Atlantis manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Canthropus is trying to stall.
Canthropus swings wildly with an uppercut but Atlantis uses good head movement to avoid it.
Canthropus's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Canthropus is trying to break the clinch but Atlantis is controlling him.
Canthropus is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Atlantis is defending well for now.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Canthropus is looking for a takedown.
Delphino Atlantis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pithe Canthropus.
Atlantis tries to score a body lock takedown but Canthropus shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Atlantis is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Canthropus can do to turn this around?

Atlantis wants the takedown. Canthropus is fighting it off but Atlantis persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Canthropus's guard against the cage.

Canthropus wants to sweep but no luck.
Canthropus bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Atlantis's guard.


Atlantis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Canthropus can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Canthropus thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Atlantis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Canthropus is working away from the top position though.
Atlantis is staying active underneath Canthropus, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Pithe Canthropus has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Atlantis is trying to maintain the position but Canthropus is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Canthropus is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Delphino Atlantis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Atlantis is refusing to be controlled, as Canthropus sits in half guard.
Atlantis moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Canthropus throws a big elbow that misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Canthropus wants to control from the top but Atlantis keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Canthropus takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Atlantis, as that shot connected.

And that's the end of the fight!
Delphino Atlantis showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Atlantis has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Delphino Atlantis thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
In defeat, Pithe Canthropus stepped up to the mic, saying 'Crap. I lost. That sucks.'.
