Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeffrey Santana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gigante Pesado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gigante Pesado has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jeffrey Santana's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jeffrey Santana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gigante Pesado!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Daniel Blasius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Santana enables Pesado to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Santana manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Pesado wants to stand but Santana has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Santana has his foot on Pesado's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pesado works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pesado tries to free his leg and advance position but Santana is retaining full guard.

Santana has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pesado can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Santana has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pesado is working away from the top position though.

Pesado throws a strike but Santana rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Santana drops back looking for a leg! Pesado is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Pesado manages to kick Santana off! Santana jumps back into Pesado's guard.

Santana is trying hard to land a takedown here. Pesado sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Pesado closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pesado wants to pass to mount but Santana is defending the position.

A close round but Gigante Pesado will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Pesado closes the distance and clinches.
Santana avoids the elbow strike from Pesado, against the cage.
Pesado wants to stall.

Pesado tries to circle away but Santana has him pinned against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pesado works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Santana could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Pesado must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Santana wants to sweep here but Pesado controlling him for the moment.
Pesado wants to control from the top but Santana keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Santana lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Santana stops Pesado from standing up.
Santana stands up over Pesado, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Pesado is working an open guard so Santana takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Pesado closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Santana's guard.

Santana pushes Pesado off and gets back to his feet.
Pesado is breathing heavily.

Santana shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Santana was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Pesado wants to get back to his feet but Santana is dominant here and he's now got Pesado's back!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Santana is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Pesado knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Pesado for a finish.

Santana throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Pesado!

Santana cracks Pesado with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Pesado from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Santana has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Pesado is rocked!
Jeffrey Santana overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Santana lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Pesado is still in real trouble! Can Santana finish him?
Santana lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Santana is landing big shots and Pesado is squirming looking to escape! He can't escape though and the ref jumps in to end the fight!
