PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sergio Tran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yobby Kalasako (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sergio Tran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yobby Kalasako!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tran shoots for a double leg takedown but Kalasako sprawls well. He's pushed Tran's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Sloppy strikes from Kalasako. Those never looked like landing.
Tran seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Tran rushes Kalasako and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Tran wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Kalasako on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Tran looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Tran jumps guard but Kalasako stands there with Tran around his waist. Tran gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tran breaks the clinch.

Tran closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Tran is working for a kimura but Kalasako is defending it quite comfortably.
Tran will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Tran is looking for a kimura but Kalasako is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tran to get the leverage.

Tran is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Tran seems to be looking for submissions.
Kalasako tries to roll over but Tran keeps him under control.

Tran is working for a kimura but Kalasako is defending it quite comfortably.
Kalasako really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tran. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kalasako is positioning himself well to prevent Tran advancing to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Tran is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kalasako defends it well.
Kalasako wants to control but Tran is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Tran seems to be looking for submissions.
Tran not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Tran is looking for a kimura but Kalasako is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tran to get the leverage.

Kalasako wants to get back to his feet.

Tran looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Kalasako makes his way to full guard, as Tran worked for a kimura.
Kalasako pulls Tran in to control the position.
Kalasako is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Tran is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Tran shoots in looking for a takedown. Kalasako tries to sprawl out of it but Tran keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kalasako manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sergio Tran. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kalasako has Tran up against the cage in a clinch.
Tran is trying to break free.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kalasako gets control of Tran's arms and successfully pulls guard. Kalasako will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sergio Tran will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Kalasako darts in and clinches Tran up against the cage.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
A frustrated look appears on Tran's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Kalasako wants to break free but Tran has control.
Tran is trying to force a seperation but Kalasako has the dominant position.

Tran's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Tran misses with a low kick.
Kalasako keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kalasako throws a counter combo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Tran is defended easily by Kalasako.
Tran really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kalasako scores with a three punch combo!


It looks like Sergio Tran has been cut.
Kalasako swats away the attempt to clinch by Tran.
Kalasako throws a left and a right that both miss
and Tran counters with a left and a right that stings Kalasako.
Kalasako lands with a nice combination. Tran backs away looking to recover.

Kalasako throws a low kick but Tran avoids it.

and Kalasako counters with a three punch combo that has Tran backing up. Tran nods at Kalasako to acknowledge the strikes.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kalasako tries to clinch there but Tran circles away.
Kalasako throws a left and a right that both miss
and Tran counters with a left and a right that stings Kalasako.

and Kalasako moves into the clinch.
Tran is trying to push Kalasako away but Kalasako has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Kalasako keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Tran's efforts to push away.

Kalasako pulls guard successfully.

Tran throws a strike but Kalasako rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Kalasako won't allow Tran to get back to his feet.
Kalasako's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Kalasako must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Tran is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kalasako is controlling him.
Kalasako has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kalasako gets to his feet. Tran looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Kalasako throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kalasako misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Tran shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kalasako pinned against the cage. Kalasako gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kalasako gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Yobby Kalasako seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Yobby Kalasako showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Kalasako counters with a left and a right that stings Tran.
No joy there for Kalasako, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kalasako lands a jab-cross combination.


Tran is rocked!
I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Kalasako has cracked Tran with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Kalasako lands another huge swinging hook and Tran tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Tran, before Kalasako can land any more shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Yobby Kalasako!
