PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Peter Gibbs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Chipman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gibbs's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Walk. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Gibbs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Chipman!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chipman fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Gibbs throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Chipman.
Chipman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gibbs pinned against the cage. Gibbs gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Chipman shoots in and drives through. Gibbs sprawls well.
Peter Gibbs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Chipman.
Gibbs keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Gibbs stuffs the takedown.

Gibbs shoots in and bounces Chipman off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Gibbs stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chipman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Chipman throws his legs up looking for a submission but Gibbs uses it to pass to side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sloppy strikes there by Gibbs.
Gibbs tries to move into full mount but can't pass Chipman's legs.
Chipman is trying to control Gibbs's posture but Gibbs avoids it.
Gibbs tries to advance to mount but can't.
Gibbs wants to control but Chipman is keeping him busy.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Chipman decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Chipman prevents Gibbs from improving his position.

Chipman is trying to work for a kimura but Gibbs is defending well.
Chipman looks gassed!

Gibbs moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Gibbs is controlling Chipman's posture.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chipman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chipman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Chipman thows a big elbow that misses.
Chipman postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Gibbs kicks Chipman off and gets to his feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Chipman.
Chipman trying to control the action but Gibbs is working from the bottom.

Gibbs is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Chipman's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Chipman's back!
Chipman is really stuck here.
Gibbs biding his time, looking for the opening.

Chipman is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Chipman wants to escape the position but for the time being he's just trying to control the pace.
Chipman trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Gibbs dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Gibbs closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Chipman is not content to let Gibbs control the position.
Chipman tries to control but Gibbs manages to take his back.
Chipman tries to break free.
Chipman trying to control the hands but Gibbs won't let him.
Gibbs is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Gibbs gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Gibbs gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Gibbs apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Chipman is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gibbs can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Chipman is looking to escape.
Chipman tries to reverse the position but Gibbs maintains control.
Chipman regains half guard.
Chipman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gibbs is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Chipman actively working from the bottom here.

Chipman is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Gibbs pulls his head out easily.
Gibbs is thwarting Chipman's attempts to control the position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Gibbs lands a nice short elbow.
Gibbs is keen to just control but Chipman is a slippery customer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Chipman shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Gibbs counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gibbs.

Gibbs wants a takedown.
Chipman is looking to break free of the clinch but Gibbs has double underhooks.

Gibbs is trying to trip Chipman. He has hold of a leg but Chipman is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Gibbs persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Peter Gibbs overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Chipman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Chipman keeping moving, preventing Gibbs from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Chipman tries for a takedown but Gibbs circles away easily

and Gibbs counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Chipman controls Gibbs momentarily but Gibbs frees himself.

Gibbs decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Chipman, up you get!

and Gibbs counters by moving into the clinch.
Peter Gibbs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Chipman.

Gibbs breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Chipman misses with a head kick.
Gibbs throws a leg kick but Chipman sees it coming and checks it nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Gibbs dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Chipman drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Chipman loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Chipman stands and throws Gibbs's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Gibbs is trying to get back to half guard.
Chipman working away.
Chipman wants to take a breather but Gibbs manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Chipman.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Chipman lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Gibbs has his foot on Chipman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chipman works his way back into a safe position though.

Chipman thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Gibbs manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Chipman is in all sorts of trouble here.
Chipman is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Chipman wants to hold on but Gibbs pushes him away.
Gibbs scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Chipman?
Chipman is looking to improve his position but Gibbs isn't that keen on the idea.
Chipman is squirming around, avoiding Gibbs's attempts to control the action.
Chipman is trying desperately to improve position.

Gibbs controlling the pace for now.
Chipman regains half guard.
Chipman looks like he's trying to stand up.

Gibbs is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Chipman is just riding it out for now. Gibbs eventually gives up the hold.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gibbs throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Chipman is controlling Gibbs's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Chipman is looking to control Gibbs's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Chipman avoid being mounted?
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gibbs wants to take a breather but Chipman is having none of it.
Dan Chipman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Peter Gibbs is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Chipman lands a nice looking kick to the body. Gibbs takes a step back to recover.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dan Chipman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gibbs has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
