PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rob Turque (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robin Van Buren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Van Buren has chosen Blue Monday as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rob Turque!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robin Van Buren!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Columbo Gatti and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Buren will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Van Buren gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Turque counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Van Buren tries for a takedown but Turque manages to get underhooks.
Rob Turque has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Robin Van Buren.

Turque breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Turque drives through with a takedown into guard.
Van Buren is trying to keep Turque in close.
Van Buren is striking but Turque is not phased and passes to half guard.
Turque with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Turque wants to pass the guard but Van Buren is defending well.
Well, if Turque is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Van Buren is trying to maintain the position but Turque is very close to passing his half guard.
Turque prevents Van Buren from standing back up.
Van Buren throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Van Buren is pressing down on Turque's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Van Buren trying to keep a closed guard but Turque is proving a slippery customer.

Van Buren is looking for a triangle but Turque pushes his legs off easily.
Van Buren has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Van Buren is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Van Buren looking for a sweep. Not yet Van Buren, not yet.
Turque has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Van Buren is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Turque is stalling in the full guard.
Van Buren looking to hit a scissor sweep but Turque is one step ahead there.
Turque knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Van Buren on the ground.

Van Buren throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Turque escapes and throws Van Buren's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Turque is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Van Buren knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Van Buren is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Van Buren is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Van Buren gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Van Buren is trying to maintain the position but Turque is very close to passing his half guard.

Van Buren looking for submissions off his back.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Turque stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rob Turque will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Van Buren gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Van Buren has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Turque avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Van Buren wants a takedown.

Van Buren is fighting off a takedown attempt but Turque is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Van Buren to the mat. Van Buren regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Turque looking to sit in guard and control but Van Buren gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Turque tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Turque has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Van Buren is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Turque takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Turque is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Rob Turque has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Robin Van Buren.

Van Buren is trying to pull guard but Turque has him pressed against the cage.

Van Buren jumps guard.

Van Buren is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Turque is aware though and is defending well.
Van Buren working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Turque.
Turque is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Van Buren wants to sweep here but Turque controlling him for the moment.

Turque is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Van Buren has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Turque is looking to defend but Van Buren has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Turque! Van Buren pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Turque taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Robin Van Buren!
