Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Franco Guerro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dominick Verk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dominick Verk is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Franco Guerro! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dominick Verk! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Roberts and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Verk closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Verk lands in his opponent's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Verk trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Verk distracts Guerro with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Verk would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Verk slips nicely into half guard. Verk performing his best blanket impression for a moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Guerro pushes Verk off looking to stand but Verk dives back in and keeps control.
Guerro on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Guerro tries to get out of the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Verk wants to pass the guard but Guerro is defending well. Guerro is controlling Verk's trapped leg to prevent Verk from advancing to side control. Guerro wants to get back to full guard. Verk is figuring out what he wants to do next. Guerro is refusing to be controlled, as Verk sits in half guard. Verk moves nicely into side control. Verk lands a nice forearm strike.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Guerro dodges the ground and pound from Verk. Verk working the ground and pound but Guerro is defending the strikes. Guerro tries to bench press Verk off him but Verk keeps the position. Verk trying to control the position but Guerro is working away. Guerro knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Verk on the ground. Verk wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Guerro, who protects the arm well. Verk has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Guerro is looking to reverse the position. Guerro takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Verk wants to lay and pray for a moment but Guerro keeps working. Guerro might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Verk decides to stand back up. Guerro closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Verk quickly recovers to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Verk is staying active underneath Guerro, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Verk is trying to maintain the position but Guerro is very close to passing his half guard. Verk regains full guard. Nicely done. Verk has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Guerro has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Guerro looking to sit in guard and control but Verk gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Guerro tries to land a sweep but no joy. Guerro is breathing heavily. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Verk seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Verk wants to control from the top but Guerro keeps moving. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dominick Verk dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Guerro looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Nice body kick there by Verk. No luck for Verk with that takedown attempt. Verk fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Guerro seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Verk closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Guerro quickly recovers to half guard. Verk is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Guerro defends it well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Verk lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
That's one minute gone in the round. Verk controlling the action here. Guerro tries to get to full guard but Verk has control of the leg. Verk trying to control the pace. Dominick Verk has got the better of the ground game so far. Guerro is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Verk jumps into side control! Guerro being controlled for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Verk lands an elbow. Guerro is looking to regain half guard here but Verk keeps moving and retains side control. Verk working the ground and pound. Verk tries to move to mount but Guerro blocks the move with his legs. A lull in the action here as Verk stalls from top position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Verk tries for a kimura but Guerro is defending well. Verk throws a strike aimed at the side of Guerro's head but Guerro avoids it well. Verk has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Verk landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Verk is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Guerro has escaped the position, nice work there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Guerro tries to buck Verk off but Verk is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Guerro's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Verk working the ground and pound. Guerro is looking for a sweep. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Verk decides to stand up, so the ref orders Guerro to his feet. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Guerro. Verk shrugs it off though. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Guerro changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Verk tries to avoid it but Guerro manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Verk to the ground. Verk escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Verk shoots in looking for a takedown but Guerro manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Verk's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dominick Verk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
Guerro wants to clinch up but Verk keeps it at a distance. Verk shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Verk was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Guerro tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Guerro takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Guerro wants to get back to his feet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Guerro is trying to remain composed but Verk is hammering down strikes to the side of his head. What can Guerro do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Verk lands an elbow to the side of the head. Verk is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Guerro has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Verk has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Guerro taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Verk doesn't care though - he's delighted!
