Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rustam Khabilov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Evan Payton! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Eddie Farnsworth and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Payton sizes up Khabilov with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Payton throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Khabilov sees it coming and avoids it easily. Payton misses with a looping left. Payton dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Khabilov takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Payton closes this distance looking for a takedown but Khabilov circles away. Payton misses with a looping right. Payton feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Khabilovs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Payton stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Payton wants it to stay on the feet. Payton lands with a cross. Khabilov has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Payton forces Khabilov back against the cage and clinches. Payton lands a right hand that snaps the head of Khabilov backwards. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Payton. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Payton doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Khabilov jumps guard but Payton stands there with Khabilov around his waist. Khabilov gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Payton lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Khabilov is trying to trip Payton. He has hold of a leg but Payton is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Khabilov persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Khabilov wants to control from the top but Payton keeps moving.

Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Khabilov. Khabilov lands a couple of elbows. Payton manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Khabilov manages to get himself to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Payton is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Khabilov is trying to control the position from the bottom.

We've been informed that Payton has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Payton tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Payton tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Payton has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Khabilov can't do much from the bottom here. Payton is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Khabilov is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Payton trying to control the action but Khabilov is working from the bottom. Khabilov is trying to get back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Evan Payton dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Payton is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Khabilov wants to control but Payton is keeping busy and won't allow it. Khabilov keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Payton is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Payton is looking to take a break and control but Khabilov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Payton is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

And that's the end of the fight! Evan Payton comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Payton has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
