PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dana Solomon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Gerko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gerko comes into a darkened arena with his song building. N.W.A - Cruisin in my 64 kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Johnny Gerko will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dana Solomon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Gerko!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, John Kavanagh and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gerko closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Solomon did well to prevent Gerko getting side control.

Solomon has his feet on Gerko's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Solomon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gerko scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


It looks like Dana Solomon has been cut.

Solomon misses with a body punch.
Solomon has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Gerko has hold of one of Solomon's legs. Solomon is fighting the takedown attempt but Gerko gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Solomon uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Gerko has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Solomon is landing a low percentage of strikes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Gerko closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Solomon to the mat! Solomon manages to get full guard.

Solomon is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Gerko presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Solomon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Solomon shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Solomon decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Gerko gets control of Solomon's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gerko will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Solomon thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Gerko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Solomon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Gerko shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Solomon's guard.
Gerko must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Solomon wants to sweep but no luck.
Solomon is working hard here to advance position.
Solomon is pulling down on Gerko's head to control his posture.

Gerko is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Solomon shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Solomon was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Gerko is trying to control Solomon's posture but Solomon avoids it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Solomon stands up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gerko shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Solomon kicks Gerko off and gets back to his feet.

Solomon is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gerko can do to turn this around?

Solomon has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Solomon closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gerko's guard.
Gerko is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Solomon dives into side control.

Solomon digs a right hand into Gerko's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Gerko's gas tank.
A frustrated look appears on Gerko's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Solomon could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Solomon feints and as Gerko raises his hands in defense, Solomon changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Solomon has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Gerko is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Gerko has one foot on Solomon's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The referee asks Solomon politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Solomon prefers to stall for the moment though.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Solomon enables Gerko to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Solomon manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Solomon has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Gerko off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Johnny Gerko seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Solomon gets to his feet - Gerko follows without any prompting.

Solomon shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Solomon showed some decent athleticism there.
Johnny Gerko has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Gerko is looking to control Solomon's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gerko avoid being mounted?
Solomon seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Solomon decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Solomon tries a head kick but it misses.
Solomon is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Gerko.

Dana Solomon is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Gerko misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Solomon is looking to counter with head kicks.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dana Solomon showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Solomon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
