Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ante Pavelic!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aerts misses with a takedown
and Pavelic counters with a nice leg kick.
Aerts tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Pavelic defends well and Aerts ends up having to push Pavelic into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Pavelic swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Aerts doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Pavelic counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Govan Aerts. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Aerts.
Pavelic defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Aerts.
Aerts darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Aerts not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Aerts is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pavelic is just riding it out for now. Aerts eventually gives up the hold.
Aerts wants to free his trapped foot but Pavelic is holding on for dear life with his legs.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pavelic can do anything to dispel that myth.

Aerts is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Pavelic is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
