Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Skinny Boy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Forrest Griffin! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Griffin throws a right and a left that Boy avoids nicely. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Griffin!
Griffin throws a series of punches but Boy moves out of range. Griffin fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Griffin instigates a clinch. Griffin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Griffin looks to land a left hand but Boy moved out of range nicely. Griffin's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Griffin duly obliges. Boy fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Griffin sprawls well initially but Boy persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Boy seems to be looking for submissions.
Boy is taking a breather. Griffin says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Griffin wants to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Griffin pushes Boy off and gets back to his feet. Griffin throws a hook to the side of Boy's head but Boy sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Griffin gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Griffin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Boy uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Griffin. Griffin throws a hook to the side of Boy's head but Boy sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Griffin looks gassed! Griffin tries to bum rush Boy with a series of wild strikes but Boy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Griffin swivels and escapes. Boy avoids a punch combination nicely.
Boy keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Griffin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Boy moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Boy darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Griffin is in trouble now - Boy has advanced to mount! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boy controlling the pace for now. Boy mounts Griffin! Really nice guard pass there! Griffin is trying to escape the mount but Boy keeps good control and instead manages to take Griffin's back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Griffin holding both Boy 's hands and preventing any damage. Boy working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Griffin is doing well to defend. Boy seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Griffin is forced to tap and this one is over!
