Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roy Kannemeyer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Rage! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, George Francis and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rage clinches with his opponent.
Kannemeyer looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Rage manages to break the clinch.
Rage scores with a jab to the jaw. Rage gets in close and instigates a clinch. Kannemeyer has hold of one of Rage's legs. Rage is fighting the takedown attempt but Kannemeyer gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Rage wants to stand but Kannemeyer is controlling the position. Rage is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Kannemeyer presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Kannemeyer wants a takedown but no success here.
Rage's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Rage moves into the clinch. Rage is trying to break the clinch but Kannemeyer has him pressed against the cage. Rage blocks the elbow strike.
Kannemeyer is pressed up against the cage. Rage has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kannemeyer down to the mat. Kannemeyer avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Rage tries a head kick but it misses.
Kannemeyer is looking to counter the offense by Rage and move into the clinch. Rage fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rage fails in his attempt to clinch. Rage shoots in looking for a takedown. Kannemeyer tries to sprawl out of it but Rage keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kannemeyer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Roy Kannemeyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Rage. Rage lands a nice looking body shot.
Rage tries a head kick but it misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Rage lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Nice jab there from Rage. Rage tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Kannemeyer is looking to counter the offense by Rage and move into the clinch. Rage lands with a right hand. Kannemeyer looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Rage fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Kannemeyer takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A quick step to the side and Kannemeyer tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Rage shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kannemeyer defends it nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rage misses with an attempted mid kick.
Kannemeyer stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kannemeyer wants it to stay on the feet. Rage lands an overhand right. Rage throws out a powerful jab. Kannemeyer dives in and grabs Rage's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rage pushes down on Kannemeyer's head and hops out. Rage tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kannemeyer manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Rage has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Kannemeyer is landing a low percentage of strikes. Rage fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Rage scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rage scores with a three punch combo!
Rage has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Rage tests Kannemeyer's chin there with a solid looking shot. Rage tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kannemeyer manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Rage tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kannemeyer paws at him with a jab and circles away. Rage throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Kannemeyer attempts a counter takedown but Rage avoids it well and moves away. Rage wants to clinch up but Kannemeyer keeps it at a distance. Kannemeyer throws a body shot but no joy. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! The fighters circle momentarily. Rage darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ryan Rage dominated that round. That's time! Kannemeyer's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rage. Kannemeyer jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit. Rage lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Kannemeyer throws a head kick but Rage moves out of range.
Rage works the jab nicely. Rage tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rage scores with a shot to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Kannemeyer takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Kannemeyer is rocked! Ryan Rage seems to be getting the better of the standup. Kannemeyer displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rage. Oh Kannemeyer is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
That's one minute gone in the round. Rage wants to slow Kannemeyer down by chopping away at his legs. Kannemeyer seems to have got his legs back now. Rage tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. A counter left hand to the body from Kannemeyer misses its target. Rage misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kannemeyer tries to counter by clinching up but Rage breaks away and moves out of range. Rage lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Kannemeyer backs up against the cage.
Rage has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Kannemeyer on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Rage. Rage obviously looking to wear him down.
Rage connects with a single shot there. Rage lands a nice shot to the body.
Good shot there by Rage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rage throws a head kick that misses. Rage fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Kannemeyer on the side of the head. Kannemeyer avoids the head kick by Rage.
Rage moves into range and connects with a jab. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rage smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Roy Kannemeyer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Rage closes the distance and clinches up with Kannemeyer, looking for a takedown. Rage pushes Kannemeyer against the cage but Kannemeyer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Kannemeyer appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Roy Kannemeyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Rage. Kannemeyer swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rage shapes to counter with a head kick. Rage shoots in and drives through. Kannemeyer sprawls well. Rage lands a nice shot that snaps Kannemeyer's head back.
Kannemeyer has Rage up against the cage in a clinch.
Kannemeyer looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rage escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nice shot by Rage. Sloppy strikes from Rage. Those never looked like landing. Kannemeyer shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kannemeyer showed some decent athleticism there. Rage is trying to stand up here but Kannemeyer is controlling him well. Kannemeyer scores with a couple of good hammerfists. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kannemeyer is looking to advance position but Rage won't allow it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rage wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Rage kicks Kannemeyer off and gets back to his feet. A left lands for Rage. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Rage fails to land with a series of punches.
Kannemeyer wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kannemeyer. Rage drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Kannemeyer defends it well. Rage throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kannemeyer. Rage gets caught flat footed, as Kannemeyer shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Rage manages to escape and get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ryan Rage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!
Rage shoots in for a takedown but Kannemeyer shows good takedown defense. Kannemeyer is looking to counter punch. Kannemeyer walks into a straight right hand from Rage. Rage tries to bum rush Kannemeyer with a series of wild strikes but Kannemeyer uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Kannemeyer was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Rage cracks Kannemeyer with a right hand to the side of the head. Rage misses with a head kick.
As Rage tries to get set, Kannemeyer tries to push him back and clinch up but Rage manages to avoid the attempt. Kannemeyer closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Rage quickly recovers to half guard. Kannemeyer wants to free his trapped foot but Rage is holding on for dear life with his legs. Kannemeyer thows a huge punch but Rage dodges it nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Rage missing with punches from the bottom.
Kannemeyer throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rage wants to get back to his feet.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Kannemeyer seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Rage wants to get back to his feet. Kannemeyer is keen to just control but Rage is a slippery customer. Kannemeyer is nestled in close to Rage, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Kannemeyer passes to side control. Kannemeyer cracks Rage with an elbow. That is naaassty. Rage tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Kannemeyer biding his time, looking for the opening.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kannemeyer has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. Kannemeyer is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Even with his hooks in, Kannemeyer manages to miss with strikes from the back. Kannemeyer trying to control momentarily.
Rage manages to stand up with Kannemeyer still on his back. Eventually Kannemeyer drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position. Rage gets the takedown into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rage stands up. Rage throws a head kick but Kannemeyer moves out of range.
Kannemeyer has closed the distance and engaged Rage in a clinch.
Rage gets control of Kannemeyer's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rage will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Kannemeyer engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Kannemeyer distracts Rage with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Kannemeyer passes Rage's left leg - he's now in half guard. Rage works his way to full guard. Good work. Ryan Rage is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kannemeyer loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Kannemeyer trying to control but Rage is working from the bottom. Kannemeyer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kannemeyer sitting in guard here, content to control. Rage is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Roy Kannemeyer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Kannemeyer is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Roy Kannemeyer. I think Rage has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
