Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scott Schultz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Dirt! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Anthony Taglia and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schultz gets caught napping as Dirt dives in and scores a takedown. Schultz manages to retain guard. Dirt would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Dirt with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Dirt is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Dirt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Schultz swivels though and keeps the full guard. Dirt slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Schultz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dirt on the ground. Schultz has control of Dirt's left arm, preventing Dirt from doing any damage. Dirt has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dirt lands a couple of decent looking shots. Dirt not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

It looks like Dirt might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Dirt takes the fight into the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dirt ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Dirt no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dirt can do anything to dispel that myth. Schultz throws a big elbow that misses. You can see the frustration on Schultz's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Dirt tries to stand but Schultz is controlling his head. Dirt has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Dirt shoots in for a takedown and gets it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Dirt. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. Dirt is working Schultz over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Dirt working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Schultz's head. Dirt is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Dirt's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. More stalling from Dirt. Dirt content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dirt controls from within his opponent's guard. Joe Dirt has got the better of the ground game so far. Dirt with more of the same as he continues to hold on. Dirt wants to get up but he can't break Schultz's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

No, Schultz has managed to get both his arms back between Dirt's legs - danger averted. Dirt has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Schultz would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Dirt pulls Schultz in close to prevent any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Schultz won't allow Dirt to get back to his feet. Schultz stands up and beckons Dirt to his feet. A lazy left from Schultz finds it's target. Dirt shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Dirt showed some decent athleticism there. Well, if Dirt is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Dirt takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Let's hope that Dirt has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Dirt lands a heavy elbow.
