PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Test Ninja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Dority (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ninja kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Super Bon Bon - Soul Coughing. Dan Dority will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Test Ninja!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dan Dority!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Luis Engracia and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ninja keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Ninja shoots in looking for a takedown. Dority tries to sprawl out of it but Ninja keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dority manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ninja shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Dority counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Dority fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ninja, pushing him back against the cage.
Dority lands a hook that snaps the head of Ninja backwards.
Dority will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Ninja up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dority escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dority is a very stocky fighter. Infact he's such a weird shape that he's almost like some sort of comedy character - it's hard to believe he's real.
Ninja ducks under a wild hook from Dority.
Ninja appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Ninja closes the distance and clinches up with Dority, looking for a takedown. Ninja pushes Dority against the cage but Dority circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Test Ninja. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dority has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Ninja shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ninja was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Dority is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Ninja tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Ninja goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Dority has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Ninja but great work by Dority.

Dority stands up and beckons Ninja to his feet.

Ninja shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Dority counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Dority fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ninja uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Dority.

Dority clinches.
Dority taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Ninja is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Dority gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Dority is pressed up against the cage. Ninja has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Dority down to the mat. Dority avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Ninja shoots in looking for a takedown but Dority manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ninja's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Ninja scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Dority to see if he's OK.
Ninja has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ninja misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Dority tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Dority defending against the ground and pound.
Ninja wants to control but Dority is keeping him busy.

Ninja tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ninja has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Dority dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Dority scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Dority breaks from the clinch.
Dority smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Ninja with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Dority to score with a decent uppercut.

Ninja manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Dority on his heels. He'll look to pass Dority's guard now, I'm sure.
Test Ninja overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dority utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Ninja throws an elbow that misses. Dority uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ninja's guard. Nice move by Dority!

Ninja might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Dority has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ninja is proving hard to escape from.
Dority has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ninja has his foot on Dority's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dority works his way back into a safe position though.
Dority would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Dority stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Ninja goes for a double leg but Dority avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Dority continues to drive forward.
A looping hook to the body misses from Dority. Ninja does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ninja was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

Ninja is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Dority's half guard.
Ninja throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Dority to regain full guard.

Dority avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ninja wants to pass the guard but Dority is keeping the position.

Ninja stands up over Dority, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Ninja is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dority doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ninja.
Dority is looking to control Ninja's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dority avoid being mounted?

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Ninja wants to work for an arm triangle but Dority is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Ninja prevents Dority from improving his position.

Ninja is looking for a kimura but Dority is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ninja to get the leverage.
Dority is not content to let Ninja control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Dority slaps away a takedown attempt from Ninja, before circling back to the center of the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ninja has his takedown stuffed
and Dority counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Dan Dority will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Dority lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Dority creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dority digs a right hand into Ninja's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Ninja's gas tank.
Ninja is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Dority pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Dority might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Ninja closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dority to the mat! Dority manages to get full guard.

Dority seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Ninja is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Dority is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Dority has escaped and now he's on top!

Dority wants to stand but Ninja is controlling his posture from full guard.
Test Ninja has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Dority stands and steps away. Ninja gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dan Dority comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Dority winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
