Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Keith Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ian Avery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Keith Stone had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 136.1lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Keith Stone has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Keith Stone! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ian Avery! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Paulo Santos and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stone shoots for a takedown but Avery saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Stone gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Ian Avery seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Avery wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Stone scores with a sloppy right hand. Avery should have avoided that one. Stone on the wrong end of a nice jab. Stone darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Stone seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Avery does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Stone wants to free his trapped foot but Avery is holding on for dear life with his legs. Stone looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Avery trying to control from the bottom.
Stone tries to pass the half guard into mount. Avery knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stone is keen to just control but Avery is a slippery customer. Avery is looking to improve his position.
Stone wants to take a breather but Avery is having none of it. Avery trying to control from the bottom.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Ground and pound from Stone. Stone is looking for a kimura here.
Stone is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Avery tries to roll over but Stone keeps him under control. The fighters are battling for position here. Avery manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Stone seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Stone wants to control from the top but Avery keeps moving. Stone controlling from the top position.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Stone slips a jab from Avery. Avery scores with a hook to the body. Stone takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Avery jabs at Stone's body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Avery stuns Stone with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Avery missing with a left hand there. Stone was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Stone went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Avery throws out a loose jab but Stone uses good head movement to avoid it. Avery throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Stone counters by moving into the clinch. Stone is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Avery pulls him back up using the underhooks. Stone escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Avery defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Stone. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Keith Stone. That's going to take a lot out of him. Stone shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Stone was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Avery takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Avery wants to control but Stone postures up. Avery is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Avery is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Stone asserts his dominance and retains side control. Stone working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
That's four minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Avery's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Stone trying to control the position but Avery is working away. Stone wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Avery, who protects the arm well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Avery takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Stone with the ground and pound but Avery regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Avery is defending against the submission attempts here by Stone.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Ian Avery will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Avery throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A slow jab from Avery misses its intended target. Stone takes the fight into the clinch. Stone tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Avery avoids it. Stone jumps guard.
Stone is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Avery looking to sit in guard and control but Stone gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Stone not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Avery scrambles and gets back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Avery misses with a hook. Stone ducked under it nicely. Stone closes the distance and clinches. With the two fighters working up against the cage, Stone just misses with a elbow thrown towards Avery's brow. Stone successfully pulls guard.
Avery missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Stone is trying to keep Avery in close.
Avery with a flurry of punches that miss. Avery throws a big right hand that misses. Stone looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Avery postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Keith Stone overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Stone is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Avery can do anything to dispel that myth. Stone seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Avery does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stone not landing any meaningful shots this time. Avery is trying to stand.
We've been informed that Avery has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Avery is holding on to half guard well. Avery trying to hold on to Stone's head to control him but Stone postures up.
Stone is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Avery wants to get back to his feet.
Stone is keen to just control but Avery is a slippery customer.

Stone is looking to stall here but Avery recovers full guard. Stone content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Avery uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Stone tries to close the distance and clinch up but Avery swats him away and circles back towards the center. Avery throws out a counter right but Stone avoids it with no problem. Stone connects with a right hand. Avery shakes it off.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stone moves out of range of the strikes. Avery gets caught flat footed, as Stone shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Avery is trying to keep Stone in close.
Stone is working Avery over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Stone sitting in guard here, content to control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stone wants to pass the guard but Avery is keeping the position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Avery pulls Stone in close to his closed guard and prevents Stone from doing any damage or advancing position. Stone wants to control from the top but Avery keeps moving. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Keith Stone dominated that second round. That's time! Stone's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Stone shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Avery's guard. Avery scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Stone closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Avery did well to prevent Stone getting side control. Stone controlling the pace. Stone thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Avery's head. Avery blocking the ground and pound attempt from Stone. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Stone wants to take a breather but Avery is having none of it. Avery looks like he's trying to stand up.
Stone stalling away here and it's allowed Avery to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stone trying to control the position from guard on top but Avery is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Stone wants to pass the guard but Avery is keeping the position. Stone postures up in Avery's guard and throws a big left but Avery blocks it. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Stone accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Stone wants to control from the top but Avery keeps moving.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Stone shoots in and drives through. Avery sprawls well. Avery tries to keep at a distance but Stone has taken the fight into the clinch. Stone gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Avery.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stone misses with a punch to the body.
Stone's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Stone gets a clinch. Stone escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Avery misses with an uppercut
and Stone counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Avery avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Stone. Stone is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Avery is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Avery is not content to let Stone control the position. Stone missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Avery wants to get back to his feet. Stone thows a huge punch but Avery dodges it nicely.
Avery keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Stone is stalling here. Avery is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Stone seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Avery has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Avery gets to mount! Stone was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Avery throwing strikes here but Stone is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stone regains half guard. Stone regains full guard. Nicely done. Avery landing some decent shots from guard. Avery throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Stone is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Stone is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Stone working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Avery doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Avery manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Avery loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Keith Stone. I think Stone has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
