Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Huey Manley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leland Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Palmer comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Annihilator - Fun Palace kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Huey Manley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
32 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Leland Palmer! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Palmer swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Manley throws a low kick but it's checked well by Palmer. Palmer misses with a straight right. Manley looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Palmer misses with an uppercut. Palmer throws a hook to the side of Manley's head but Manley sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Palmer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Palmer lands with a hook. Manley tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. and Manley counters with a nice double leg into guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Palmer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Palmer can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Manley controls the pace. We've been hearing good reports from Manley's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Manley tries to get to full guard but Palmer has control of the leg. Manley keeping hold of Palmer's head, controlling as best he can. Manley regains full guard. Nicely done.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Palmer trying to control but Manley is working from the bottom. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Palmer accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Manley is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Palmer wants to control from the top but Manley keeps moving. Manley tries to land a sweep but no joy. Manley trying to control the position here. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Palmer won't allow Manley to sweep him here.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Palmer thows a left - swing and a miss! Palmer throws a wild combination but nothing lands. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Huey Manley will probably get the nod. That's time! Manley's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Palmer shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Palmer tries to pass the half guard into mount. Manley knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Manley is controlling Palmer's position as best he can from this difficult position. Manley blocking the ground and pound attempt from Palmer. Manley has momentary wrist control but Palmer slips an elbow through the middle. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Manley holds on and takes a little breather. Manley wants to hit a switch here but Palmer passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Manley there! Palmer prevents Manley from getting the reversal.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Palmer jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Manley manages to avoid the submission attempt. Palmer wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Manley, who protects the arm well. Manley tries to bench press Palmer off him but Palmer keeps the position. Manley taking punishment in the form of punches.
You can see the frustration on Manley's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Palmer sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Manley is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

He's almost out here... but no, Palmer gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Manley tries to get back to half guard but can't. That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Manley manages to get back to half guard. Manley is doing well to control the position and prevent Palmer from advancing to side control. Manley gets full guard. Palmer forces his way into half guard. Manley is looking to control Palmer's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Manley avoid being mounted? Palmer prevents Manley from improving his position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Palmer working over Manley with some ground and pound. Manley looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Palmer is trying to control the action in half guard but Manley is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Leland Palmer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Palmer throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Palmer closes the distance and clinches up with Manley, looking for a takedown. Palmer pushes Manley against the cage but Manley circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Palmer shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Manley pinned against the cage. Manley gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Huey Manley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leland Palmer. Palmer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Manley decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Palmer makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Palmer. Manley with a flurry of punches that miss. Manley landing with the ground and pound. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Palmer wants to free his trapped foot but Manley is holding on for dear life with his legs. Ground and pound from Palmer.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are battling for position here. Manley manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Palmer wants to control from the top but Manley keeps moving. Manley is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Palmer content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Manley wants to get back to his feet but Palmer is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Palmer throwing strikes but missing. Palmer throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Manley works some decent striking defense from the bottom. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Manley wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Manley preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Huey Manley. I think Manley has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
