PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scott Manning (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ras Butten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Butten is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: El Guapo. Scott Manning has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Manning!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ras Butten!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Nard Betker and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manning slips under a jab from Butten.
Manning tries to counter with a takedown but Butten is quick to defend against it.

Manning bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Manning postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Manning working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Butten told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Butten is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Butten is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Manning is controlling him well.

Manning is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Butten is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Manning is staying tight to Butten's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Manning is looking to take a break and control but Butten is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Manning in side control, just content to control the action for now.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Manning in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Butten is being controlled here.
Butten prevents Manning from improving position.
Butten really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Manning. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Manning content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Butten missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Manning makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Manning.

Manning closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Butten to the mat! Butten manages to get full guard.

Butten manages to escape and get back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Manning takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Manning fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Manning looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Manning fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Butten avoids it really well and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ras Butten will probably get the nod.
That's time! Manning's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Butten feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Mannings jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Butten closes the distance and clinches.
Butten utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Manning is looking to take this one to the mat.
Butten stalls.
Manning has Butten pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Butten manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Butten gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Manning is trying to break free.
Manning takes a knee to the side of the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Butten is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scott Manning. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Manning tries to break the clinch but Butten is controlling the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Manning goes for a takedown attempt but Butten pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Manning closes the distance and clinches up with Butten, looking for a takedown. Manning pushes Butten against the cage but Butten circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Butten dodges the punch combination from Manning.
Manning gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Butten stuns Manning with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Butten tries to clinch but Manning is having none of it.
Butten looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Butten has taken the fight to the clinch.
Butten is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Butten goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Butten stalling in the clinch but Manning improves position.
Butten lands a body punch.
Butten tries to land a knee to the head but Manning blocks with his arms.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Butten is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Butten stalling.
Manning is looking for a takedown.

Butten is looking to control Manning's arms but Manning gets an underhook and turns him. Now Butten has his back to the cage.
Ras Butten seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
The referee is keeping an eye on Butten - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Ras Butten.
Manning shoots in but Butten avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Butten is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Butten lands an overhand right.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Butten fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Manning.
A punch lands to the side of Manning 's head but he takes it in his stride.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ras Butten showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

and Butten counters with a nice uppercut.

Manning closes the distance and pushes Butten back into the cage.
Butten connects with a knee to the head.


Manning is rocked!
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Butten jerks Manning's head down, straight into the path of a devastating knee! Manning drops to the floor in a crumpled heap! Butten goes to throw a finishing haymaker but pulls out - good sportsmanship from Butten because Manning was completely out of it. That was a nice finish - just the right level of brutality to send everyone home happy.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knee). Ras Butten!
During a confident post fight interview, Ras Butten thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
