PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fight Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robin Van Buren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Van Buren has chosen Blue Monday as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fight Guy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robin Van Buren!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Anthony Taglia and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Buren misses the shot to the body.

Guy looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Guy prevents Van Buren from standing back up.
Guy is nestled in close to Van Buren, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Van Buren wants to improve his position but Guy is controlling well.
Guy takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Van Buren wants to get back to his feet.
Van Buren regains full guard. Nicely done.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Guy postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
We've been hearing that Guy has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Van Buren looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Guy passes into side control.
Van Buren seems a little lost for a moment, as Guy dominates the positioning.

Guy tries for a kimura but Van Buren is defending well.
Van Buren is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Van Buren is trying to escape the position but Guy is controlling the position.
Van Buren manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Still in half guard, Guy seems content to control.
Van Buren is looking to control Guy's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Van Buren avoid being mounted?

Guy looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Guy prevents Van Buren from standing back up.
Van Buren tries to roll over but Guy keeps him under control.

Guy seems to be working for a kimura but Van Buren defends the submission attempt.

Van Buren pushes Guy off but Guy dives into side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The referee asks Guy politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Guy prefers to stall for the moment though.
Guy wants to control but Van Buren is keeping him busy.
Van Buren tries to bench press Guy off him but Guy keeps the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fight Guy dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Van Buren is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Van Buren looks for a takedown but Guy sprawls well.
Van Buren fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Fight Guy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Robin Van Buren.

Guy closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Guy lands in his opponent's guard.

Van Buren looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Van Buren wants to get back to his feet but Guy is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Van Buren is breathing heavily.

Guy content to stall in guard here.

Van Buren has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Guy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Guy controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Guy connects with a couple of short punches.
Guy controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Guy has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Guy got a little sloppy there for a moment and Van Buren has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Guy has managed to get both his arms back between Van Buren's legs - danger averted.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Guy is in close to Van Buren's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Fight Guy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Guy slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Guy not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Van Buren fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Guy changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Guy shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Guy was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Guy lands a few punches from side control.

Guy working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Guy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Van Buren, who protects the arm well.

Guy slows the pace down.
Guy landing strikes.
Guy staying calm.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Guy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Van Buren keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fight Guy dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Guy slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Guy lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Van Buren down.
Guy remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Van Buren sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Van Buren is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Guy scores with a couple of nice shots.
Well, if Guy is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Van Buren won't allow Guy to pass to mount.

Van Buren is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Guy breaks from Van Buren's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Van Buren tries to hold on but Guy postures up.
Guy is in the full mount, landing strikes.


Van Buren is rocked!
Van Buren takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Guy lands a heavy shot. That's hurt Van Buren! Guy sees the opportunity and turns up the heat - strike after strike land to the defenseless Van Buren and the ref dives in to save him! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Fight Guy!
Fight Guy decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
In defeat, Robin Van Buren stepped up to the mic, saying 'I will return. I will be better. My hair will be greener.'.
