Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ken Kahne! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bogdan Petrycki! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kahne uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Petrycki.
Petrycki connects with a high kick. Kahne throws a body shot but no joy. Kahne throws a body shot but no joy. Petrycki swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kahne misses the shot to the body. Petrycki doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Nice uppercut lands for Kahne. That snapped Petrycki's head back.
A nice leg kick lands there from Petrycki. Kahne scores with a nice head shot. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Petrycki rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Kahne counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kahne misses with a head shot. Petrycki uses the momentum to regain guard. Kahne pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Petrycki is keeping the position for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. We've been hearing that Kahne has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Petrycki looking for a sweep. Not yet Petrycki, not yet. Kahne looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Kahne loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Petrycki utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kahne wants to pass the guard but Petrycki is keeping the position. Kahne has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Kahne postures up in Petrycki's guard and throws a big left but Petrycki blocks it. Kahne pushing down on Petrycki's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Petrycki has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kahne is working away from the top position though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kahne lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Kahne seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Petrycki does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Petrycki looks like he's trying to stand up.
Kahne prevents Petrycki from improving his position. Kahne thows a huge punch but Petrycki dodges it nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Petrycki is pushing off trying to get to his feet. Kahne has hold of the leg though and he's dropped back for a heel hook… has he got it?? YES! Petrycki is tapping! This fight is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Heel Hook). Ken Kahne! Ken Kahne retains his bantamweight title! Ken Kahne really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Spartan Nutrition logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty. Bogdan Petrycki was interviewed post fight and said 'I've got some things to think about. Do i keep going, hoping I'll reach championship form again, or do I quit while I have my youth and good looks. My next fight may be my last, who knows. I will forever be in debt to my fans. Thank you guys.'.
