PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Carson Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bao Tran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Carson Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bao Tran!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Daniel Franklin and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Johnson lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Tran has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Tran and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
As Johnson backs off Tran throws a huge counter combo but Johnson manages to avoid it all.

Johnson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Tran seems a little lost for a moment, as Johnson dominates the positioning.
Tran really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Johnson has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Tran is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Johnson has control of Tran's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Tran regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Johnson throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Tran because Johnson loaded up on that one.

Johnson controlling the pace for now.
Tran is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Johnson content just to control the position here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Johnson goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Tran is on top in guard.

Johnson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Johnson has his hands on Tran's head, controlling the position.

Tran prevents Johnson from getting back to his feet.
Johnson has control of Tran's left arm, preventing Tran from doing any damage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Tran wants to get up but he can't break Johnson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Johnson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Tran must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Johnson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tran doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tran manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Johnson throws a lazy head kick
and Johnson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Johnson misses with a kick to the body
and Tran counters with a three punch combo that has Johnson backing up. Johnson nods at Tran to acknowledge the strikes.
Tran circles away from the clinch attempt
and Tran makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown but Tran shows good takedown defense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Johnson shoots in and drives through. Tran sprawls well.
As Johnson backs off Tran throws a huge counter combo but Johnson manages to avoid it all.

Tran is trying to stand up here but Johnson is controlling him well.

Carson Johnson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Johnson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Johnson seems to be working for a kimura but Tran defends the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Johnson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Tran!

Johnson wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Tran stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tran wants it to stay on the feet.

Tran bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Carson Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Horrible takedown attempt by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by Tran, which made it look bad.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bao Tran comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tran has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
