The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boykin misses with a double jab.
Kovalenko stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Boykin connects with a good right hand that stumbles Kovalenko. Kovalenko circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Boykin is trying to break the clinch but Kovalenko is controlling him.

It looked like Kovalenko was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Kovalenko scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Kovalenko lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Kovalenko displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Boykin throws out the jab.
Boykin throws a series of punches but Kovalenko avoids them all with ease.

Kovalenko shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Boykin eats them both and turns towards Kovalenko to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Kovalenko takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Boykin tries to clinch but Kovalenko is having none of it.
Kovalenko takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Boykin bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Kovalenko! He dives into his guard looking to finish!
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Boykin postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Kovalenko covers up, he's hurt! Boykin keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Boykin and the ref steps in to end the fight! Boykin can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.
