Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Geraldo Mason! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Francis Thornton! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Phil Schofield and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mason blocks a head kick by Thornton.
Mason tries to clinch up. A head kick misses from Mason. Thornton throws a head kick that misses. Mason avoids the head kick by Thornton.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Mason enables Thornton to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mason manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Mason kicks Thornton off and gets to his feet. Thornton avoids the body shot from Mason.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Thornton. Mason throws Thornton to one side and escapes! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Thornton closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. You can see the frustration on Mason's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mason tries to strike but it doesn't land. Mason is looking for a sweep. Mason gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Mason is looking to escape. Mason moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Mason is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Thornton is controlling him. Mason looking for a guillotine here but Thornton defends easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mason pulls Thornton in to control the position. Thornton stands up from guard. Let's bang! Mason really is a fat lump. Thornton pushes Mason up against the cage in a clinch. Thornton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Thornton shoots in and bounces Mason off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Mason pushes Thornton off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. This has been an exciting period of action! Thornton drives through and clinches with Mason against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mason blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Thornton's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Mason tries to sprawl but Thornton drives through with a takedown into half guard. Mason trying to control but Thornton postures up.
Thornton tries to stand and escape but Mason is controlling the position. Mason is trying to get back to full guard. Mason moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mason looking for a sweep. Not yet Mason, not yet. Mason lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Mason stands up from guard. Let's bang! Thornton fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Mason checks it well. Thornton throws a head kick that misses and Mason counters with a nice double leg into guard. Thornton is looking to stand back up but Mason counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Thornton. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Thornton wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mason is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Thornton can do to turn this around? Thornton clinches. Thornton tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Mason avoids it. Thornton trying to land knees to the body.
Mason tries to circle away but Thornton has him pinned against the cage. Thornton lands a takedown into guard.
Mason has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Thornton off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mason misses with a jab, cross combination.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Thornton can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mason won't let Thornton get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Mason thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Mason wants to finish this one by submission but Thornton is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mason. Mason is standing up, even though he is in mount. Thornton instigates a clinch. Thornton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mason dives in and scores a takedown into Thornton's guard. Thornton wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Mason manages to pass to side control.
Thornton pushes Mason off, looking to escape but Mason dives into side control. He's locked up a kimura now - that was fast! He's cranking on it and Thornton is forced to tap! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Geraldo Mason!
