Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rosendo Newman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Irl Duststorm! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, John Roberts and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Newman gets in close and instigates a clinch. Newman tries for a takedown but Duststorm manages to get underhooks.
Newman can't get the takedown.
Newman drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Duststorm gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rosendo Newman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Duststorm is trying to force a seperation but Newman has the dominant position. Duststorm pulls guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Newman stands and steps away. Duststorm gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Duststorm takes one on the button. Duststorm looks to land a combination but Newman avoids it well. Duststorm decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Duststorm looks winded! Newman is controlling Duststorm's trapped leg to prevent Duststorm from advancing to side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Duststorm really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Newman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Newman gets back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Newman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Duststorm gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Newman is controlling Duststorm's posture. Duststorm trying to control the position from guard on top but Newman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Duststorm is fighting to break Newman's control of his arms but Newman is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Newman continues to stall.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Newman clinches up against the cage. Duststorm wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Newman has him pressed against the cage. Duststorm keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Newman's efforts to push away. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Newman as Duststorm tries to tie him up. Duststorm stops a takedown attempt from Newman.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Newman is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Duststorm can't fight it off and eventually Newman manages to take the fight to the floor. Duststorm looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Newman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Newman stopping the sweep attempt from Duststorm. Newman landing some decent shots from guard. Newman is working Duststorm over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Newman is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Newman decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Duststorm, up you get! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Rosendo Newman will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Newman has closed the distance and engaged Duststorm in a clinch.
Newman is working for takedown but Duststorm is calmly controlling the position for now. Newman manages to pull guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Newman controlling the position. Newman has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Newman is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Newman blocks the strikes from Duststorm.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Newman working the head and body with strikes. Newman decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Irl Duststorm is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Duststorm shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Newman napping and manages to drive through into side control! Duststorm is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Newman holding on. Newman misses with an elbow from the bottom. Newman sneaks back into half guard. Newman makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Newman. Duststorm must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Newman has control of Duststorm's left arm, preventing Duststorm from doing any damage. Duststorm stopping the sweep attempt from Newman. Newman throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Newman is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Newman landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Newman is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Duststorm defends it well. Duststorm has hold of Newman's hands but Newman slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Duststorm gets back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Newman gets to his feet. Duststorm looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Newman drives through and clinches with Duststorm against the cage.
Newman has hold of one of Duststorm's legs. Duststorm is fighting the takedown attempt but Newman gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Duststorm wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Newman manages to pass to side control. Newman lands strikes from half guard. Duststorm on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Newman landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Duststorm kicks off Newman and gets to his feet. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Duststorm gets tackled into the cage by Newman. Newman maintains the clinch. Newman has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Duststorm regains guard immediately. Newman scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Newman is working Duststorm over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Newman stands up from Duststorm's guard - Newman perhaps looking for a knockout. Newman gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Newman rushes Duststorm and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Newman turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Check out the look on Newman's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Newman decides to take the fight back to the feet. Newman throws a sloppy head kick and Duststorm moves out of range easily. Newman has Duststorm up against the cage in a clinch.
Duststorm tries to stall but Newman uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

He's controlling the position at the moment. Newman is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Duststorm can do to turn this around? Newman wants to improve his position but Duststorm is controlling well.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! Duststorm takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Newman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Newman makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Newman. Newman lands a good elbow from the bottom. Duststorm missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Newman looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Newman lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Newman's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Newman postures up and lands a big shot to Duststorm's brow. Newman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Newman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Newman gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Newman darts in and clinches Duststorm up against the cage. Newman wants a takedown.

The fighters circling - Duststorm throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Newman goes for a double leg but Duststorm avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Duststorm continues to drive forward. Duststorm feints and then cracks Newman's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Newman down. Duststorm throws a series of punches but Newman avoids them all with ease. Irl Duststorm has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Newman throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
And Duststorm responds with a good body kick, but Newman manages to step out the way in time. Newman connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Newman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Newman connects with a jab. Duststorm blocks a head kick by Newman.

Duststorm looking for a takedown here - he's got it. The fighters are working up against the cage. Newman manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. This has been an exciting period of action! Duststorm jumps guard and drags Newman to the mat.
