PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rob Ford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Blood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rob Ford!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard Blood!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Ford.
Blood drops his hands momentarily and Ford takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Ford pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Ford clinches up with Blood and pushes him back against the cage.
Blood drops down looking for an ankle pick but Ford pulls his leg out and moves away.

Blood moves into the clinch.
Ford using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Blood has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Blood has hold of one of Ford's legs. Ford is fighting the takedown attempt but Blood gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Ford pushes Blood off and gets back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Blood takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Blood changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ford looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
You can see the frustration on Ford's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
What's Ford going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Blood works to advance to full mount. Ford defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Ford working to try and regain half guard.
Ford sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Ford is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ford actively working from the bottom here.
Blood is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Ford wants to get back to his feet.
Blood is controlling the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ford is looking for a sweep. Blood is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Blood working over Ford with some ground and pound. Ford looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Ford actively working from the bottom here.
Ford is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ford is looking to control Blood's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ford avoid being mounted?
Ford is refusing to be controlled, as Blood sits in half guard.
Ford has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Blood is working away from the top position though.

Ford looking for submissions off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Blood trying to control the action but Ford is working from the bottom.
Blood is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Ford looking for subs from the bottom but Blood mounts him!
Blood avoids the attempt from Ford to control.
Ford is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Blood is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ford is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Blood can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ford is looking to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Blood prevents Ford from getting the reversal.
Ford sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Ford tries to kick Blood off but Blood keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Ford is in trouble now - Blood has advanced to mount!
Blood trying to control but Ford is having none of it.
Blood avoids the attempt from Ford to control.
Ford regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rob Ford will probably get the nod.
That's time! Ford's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A combination from Ford does no damage.
Blood shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ford defends it nicely.

Ford moves into the clinch.
Ford throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Ford is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Blood can do to turn this around?
Blood can't get the takedown.
Blood has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Ford avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Rob Ford has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Richard Blood.
Ford lands an elbow that stopped Blood in his tracks for a moment.
Blood takes an elbow to the temple.
Ford misses with a hook to the ribs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Blood gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Ford kicks off Blood and gets to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ford throws a body punch but Blood moves out of range.
Blood has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Ford keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ford fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Blood has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ford throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Blood closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ford circles away.
Blood tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ford slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Blood walks into a straight right hand from Ford.

Ford closes the distance and clinches.
Our sources have told us that Ford has been working on his elbows in the gym.
Ford with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Blood gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Ford keeping moving, preventing Blood from controlling successfully.
Ford wants to sweep but no luck.
Ford pulls Blood in close to prevent any damage.

Ford looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Ford has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Blood can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ford looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Blood passes into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ford regains half guard.
Blood tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Ford.

Blood is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ford is just riding it out for now. Blood eventually gives up the hold.
Blood trying to control the action but Ford is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ford slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Blood postures up and lands a big shot to Ford's brow.
Blood won't allow Ford to sweep him here.

Ford working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Blood doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Blood manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Richard Blood has got the better of the ground game so far.
Blood is pushing down on Ford's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ford is fighting to maintain full guard but Blood has managed to sneak the leg through.
Ford wants to control but Blood is keeping busy.
Ford is trying to stand up here but Blood is controlling him well.

Ford is trying to maintain the position but Blood is very close to passing his half guard.

Blood in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Ford tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Blood!
