Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Hunt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marc Emery! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight stays on the outside here - Hunt looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Hunt shoots in but Emery avoids the takedown attempt easily. Emery fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Hunt tries for a takedown but Emery circles away easily so Emery counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Emery lands a couple of decent looking shots. Emery with a flurry of punches that miss. Hunt has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Emery is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hunt. You can see the frustration on Hunt's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Emery wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hunt keeps working. Emery throws an elbow but Hunt slips to the side and avoids it well. Emery takes a little break here. Hunt wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Emery working the head with strikes. Hunt is looking to reverse the position. Emery lands an elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Emery scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Hunt to see if he's OK. An elbow from Emery crashes against the mat.
Emery grinds an elbow into Hunt's temple. Emery landing a few strikes. Hunt is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Emery asserts his dominance and retains side control. Emery lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Hunt is breathing heavily. Emery landing a few strikes. Hunt gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Hunt tries to roll over but Emery keeps him under control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Emery drops an elbow to the side of Hunt's head. Hunt moves into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Emery stands and steps away. Hunt gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Emery bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Hunt is trying to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Emery lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Hunt down.
Emery connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Hunt some visible discomfort.
Hunt on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Emery working the head and body with strikes. Emery grinds an elbow into Hunt's temple. Emery lands a decent elbow from side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Emery wants to control but Hunt is keeping him busy. Hunt is looking to regain half guard here but Emery keeps moving and retains side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marc Emery dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Emery shoots in and drives through. Hunt sprawls well. Emery throws a series of punches but Hunt avoids them all with ease. Emery throws a leg kick but Hunt sees it coming and checks it nicely. Hunt checks a leg kick nicely. Hunt wants to clinch but Emery slips to the side and Emery counters with a series of strikes. Hunt will be more careful next time no doubt. Hunt closes the distance but Emery moves to the side and Emery counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Hunt trying to control from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Emery scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Hunt makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hunt. Hunt keeping full guard, as Emery tries to pass. Hunt looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Emery passes into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Emery wants to take a breather but Hunt is having none of it. Emery is nestled in close to Hunt, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Hunt tries to roll over but Emery keeps him under control. Emery is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Emery seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Emery trying to control from half guard but Hunt is working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hunt on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Emery drives through with a takedown into guard. Hunt is striking from the bottom but Emery uses the opportunity to pass into half guard. Hunt looking for subs from the bottom but Emery mounts him! Hunt tries to hold on but Emery postures up. Hunt is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Emery putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Emery prevents Hunt from getting the reversal. Emery is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hunt can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Emery scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Hunt tries to reverse the position but Emery maintains control. Hunt in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Hunt is in all sorts of trouble here.
Hunt is squirming around, avoiding Emery's attempts to control the action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marc Emery showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Emery throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Emery misses with a takedown attempt and Hunt counters with a single leg into guard. Emery didn't expect that. Hunt drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hunt jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Hunt passes easily into side control. Nice work. Marc Emery has got the better of the ground game so far. Emery throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Emery is looking to reverse the position. Emery really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hunt. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Emery manages to get back to half guard. Hunt missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Emery is trying to stand.
Emery won't allow Hunt to pass to mount. Hunt is trying to control the action in half guard but Emery is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Hunt trying to work for an americana but Emery has managed to regain full guard.
Emery keeping full guard, as Hunt tries to pass. Emery looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hunt is one step ahead there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Hunt stands and steps away. Emery gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Hunt doesn't succeed with the takedown and Emery counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Hunt! Emery cracks Hunt with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Emery connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Hunt is trying desperately to improve position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hunt wants to control but Emery is having none of it. Emery controlling from mount. Hunt regains half guard. Emery lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Hunt is looking to control Emery's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hunt avoid being mounted? Emery seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Hunt has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Emery escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Emery! Hunt is working to avoid the ground and pound but Emery connects with a decent elbow. Hunt takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Emery scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Hunt to see if he's OK.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Marc Emery. Well Emery has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
