Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Geraldo Whitley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chakademus Pliers! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pliers has managed to clinch.
Whitley letting Pliers take a breather here. Pliers pulls Whitley into guard.
Pliers looking for a sweep. Not yet Pliers, not yet. Whitley really is a fat lump. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pliers preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Pliers looking to control.
Pliers can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Whitley controls the pace. Whitley trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Whitley lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Pliers wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Whitley is now in half guard. Pliers punching from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whitley postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Pliers to stand up. Whitley shoots in but no luck this time. Whitley misses with a takedown and Pliers counters with a head kick. Whitley has his takedown stuffed and Pliers counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Geraldo Whitley. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pliers wants to clinch. Whitley changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Whitley moves in looking to clinch but Pliers pushes him off. Pliers gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pliers looking to hit a scissor sweep but Whitley is one step ahead there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Whitley controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Whitley is standing up over Pliers. Pliers looks to escape but Whitley dives into side control.
Whitley wants to control for a moment but Pliers uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. Pliers wants to control but Whitley is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Whitley is keen to just control but Pliers is a slippery customer. Whitley prevents Pliers from improving his position. Pliers moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Pliers avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Pliers wants to stand up but Whitley is controlling him. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pliers is on top in guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pliers passes into half guard. Pliers is trying to control. Whitley wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Pliers content to control rather than advance. Nice strikes from Pliers there. Whitley is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Nice strikes from Pliers there. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Pliers seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Whitley might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Pliers working Whitley over with strikes. Pliers looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chakademus Pliers dominated that round. The cut man is working on Geraldo Whitley's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Pliers looks for the body kick but Whitley saw that one coming. Whitley is trying hard to land a takedown here. Pliers sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Whitley wants to clinch up but Pliers keeps it at a distance. Pliers misses with a head kick.
Whitley gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pliers to score an easy takedown into full guard. The fighters are working up against the cage. Whitley manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Pliers is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Whitley shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pliers defends it nicely. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Geraldo Whitley. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pliers stuffs the takedown. Pliers gets a takedown into half guard. Whitley actively working from the bottom here. Pliers is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Whitley has hold of Pliers's hands but Pliers slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Pliers keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Whitley is trying to get back to full guard. Pliers has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Pliers is working for a kimura but Whitley is defending it quite comfortably.
Pliers wants to stand up but Whitley has a hold of him and won't allow it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pliers moves nicely into side control. Whitley tries to bench press Pliers off him but Pliers keeps the position. Pliers stands up and we're back to a striking position. Pliers drives through with a takedown into guard. Whitley looking for a sweep. Not yet Whitley, not yet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Pliers lands a couple of elbows. Whitley throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Pliers passes Whitley's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pliers is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Pliers escapes and gets back to his feet. Whitley closes the distance and clinches. Pliers has clasped his hands together around Whitley's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Whitley tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Pliers presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Whitley tries to reverse the position but Pliers maintains control. Pliers takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chakademus Pliers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Geraldo Whitley's cut. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!
Pliers shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Whitley tries to land a sweep but no joy. Pliers keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Whitley's head. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Pliers's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Pliers landing with the ground and pound. Pliers distracts Whitley with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Whitley wants to stand up but Pliers is controlling him. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Pliers. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pliers trying to control the position from guard on top but Whitley is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Whitley wants to control the position but Pliers says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pliers drops an elbow to the side of Whitley's head. Pliers slows the pace down in half guard. Pliers has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Whitley on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Pliers wants to stand but Whitley has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Whitley is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Pliers tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Whitley. Pliers performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Pliers scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Whitley wants to control the action here but instead Pliers manages to pass to full mount! Pliers avoids the attempt from Whitley to control. Pliers connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Pliers blocks Whitley's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Pliers trying to control but he's not successful this time. Pliers lands a heavy elbow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pliers tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Pliers working the ground and pound effectively.
Whitley is rocked! Pliers is in full mount looking to finish with strikes. He lands a big shot, followed by another and Whitley goes limp! The ref jumps in to end the fight - a big win for Pliers!
