PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Russell Paulman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lim Yun Gyu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paulman kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is War is my Love . Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Russell Paulman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Lim Yun Gyu!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Atkins and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yun Gyu fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Yun Gyu misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A combination from Yun Gyu does no damage.
Paulman darts in looking for a takedown but Yun Gyu gets double underhooks and turns Paulman into the cage.
Despite the aggression on Yun Gyu's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Paulman takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Yun Gyu throws a hook to the side of Paulman's head but Paulman sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Yun Gyu throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Paulman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Yun Gyu but Yun Gyu pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Paulman looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Yun Gyu throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Yun Gyu misses with a series of wild punches.
Paulman takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Yun Gyu throws a jab but it's blocked by Paulman.

Paulman moves into the clinch.
Paulman creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Yun Gyu's defenses.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Paulman has hold of one of Yun Gyu's legs. Yun Gyu is fighting the takedown attempt but Paulman gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Paulman seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Yun Gyu for as long as he can get away with.
Paulman's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Paulman wants to stand but Yun Gyu has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Paulman shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Yun Gyu defends it nicely.

Paulman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Yun Gyu manages to get himself to full guard.

Paulman is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Yun Gyu must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Yun Gyu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Paulman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
