Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nauricio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Dwyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michael Dwyer told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nauricio Rua! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Dwyer! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rua circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rua throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dwyer's waist but Dwyer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rua off to one side. Dwyer moves in looking to clinch but Rua pushes him off. Dwyer takes the fight into the clinch. Rua is fighting off a takedown attempt but Dwyer is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Rua to the mat. Rua regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Rua looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Rua manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Rua has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Dwyer's face.

Dwyer tries to lock up and control but Rua gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Rua lands a heavy elbow. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Dwyer keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rua is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Dwyer has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Dwyer bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
That's one minute gone in the round. Rua looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dwyer is one step ahead there. Dwyer stands up from Rua's guard - Dwyer perhaps looking for a knockout. Dwyer shoots in but Rua avoids the takedown attempt easily. Dwyer feints and as Rua raises his hands in defense, Dwyer changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Dwyer looks gassed! Dwyer wants to control from the top but Rua keeps moving. Rua working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dwyer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dwyer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Rua throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Dwyer wanted to stand there but Rua had control of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dwyer pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rua is keeping the position for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rua working for a triangle but Dwyer defends it easily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Dwyer stopping the sweep attempt from Rua. Rua working for a triangle but Dwyer defends it easily.
Dwyer lands a couple of decent looking shots. Dwyer preventing the sweep. Rua is looking for a triangle but Dwyer pushes his legs off easily.
Dwyer gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rua gets a clinch. Rua using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.

Rua looking to throw knees to the head but Dwyer is blocking nicely.
Dwyer tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Dwyer looking for a takedown. Nauricio Rua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Dwyer. Dwyer goes for a takedown attempt but Rua pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Dwyer with a lazy takedown attempt and Rua counters with a nice double leg into guard. Rua stands up from Dwyer's guard - Rua perhaps looking for a knockout. Rua throws a wild body kick that Dwyer sees coming a mile off. Rua clinches but Dwyer breaks the clinch and Dwyer counters with a stiff right hand. Rua forces Dwyer back against the cage and clinches. Dwyer lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action! Rua works his way to full guard. Good work. Rua is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Dwyer has his hands clasped together but Rua extends an breaks Dwyer's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Rua.
