PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hai Collier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donnie McDermott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hai Collier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Donnie McDermott!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Collier tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but McDermott paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Collier has McDermott up against the cage in a clinch.
Collier tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. McDermott just stands there and leans against the cage.
McDermott pushes Collier back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

McDermott breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Collier moves into the clinch.

McDermott's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Collier uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McDermott.
Collier tries to close the distance and clinch but McDermott swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from McDermott.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Collier closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Collier.
Collier tries for a takedown but McDermott manages to get underhooks.

McDermott drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Collier manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now McDermott has Collier in his guard.

Collier postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McDermott is looking for a kimura but Collier is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for McDermott to get the leverage.

Collier tries to close the distance and clinch up but McDermott swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Collier tries to sprawl but McDermott drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Collier is trying to maintain the position but McDermott is very close to passing his half guard.
McDermott wants to control but Collier is keeping him busy.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Collier tries to kick McDermott off but McDermott keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
McDermott lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Collier is fighting to break McDermott's control of his arms but McDermott is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now McDermott is on top in guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Collier is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Collier is trying to trip McDermott. He has hold of a leg but McDermott is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Collier persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Collier's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
McDermott has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Collier won't allow McDermott to get back to his feet.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Collier accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

McDermott has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Collier can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Collier wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

McDermott tries to get to his feet but Collier is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with McDermott in his guard.
Collier really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Hai Collier.
I think McDermott has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
