Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Samak Tiyapairat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Vega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tiyapairat kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Ram Muay. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
29 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Samak Tiyapairat! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Vega! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A jab from Tiyapairat misses. Vega ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Tiyapairat moves away. Vega misses with a hook. Tiyapairat ducked under it nicely. Tiyapairat just misses with a punch to the body.
Tiyapairat lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Vega shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tiyapairat napping and manages to drive through into side control! Tiyapairat throws Vega to one side and escapes! Tiyapairat is looking to chop away at Vega's legs. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Tiyapairat tries to close the distance and clinch up but Vega swats him away and circles back towards the center. A swing and a miss from Tiyapairat. A nice side step and Vega releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Vega fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Tiyapairat is looking to clinch but Vega is avoiding it.
Vega scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Tiyapairat throws a looping overhand right but Vega ducks down to avoid it. Vega looks like he wants to counter punch here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vega takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Tiyapairat looks to clinch letting Vega counter with a right hand. Tiyapairat throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Tiyapairat fails in his attempt to clinch. Tiyapairat tries to clinch but Vega moves away and Vega counters with a lovely straight right hand! Vega tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Samak Tiyapairat is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Vega scores with a nice body kick.
Tiyapairat doesn't manage to clinch there - Vega circles away.
Vega avoids the body shot from Tiyapairat.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Vega. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Vega scoring with punches and elbows. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Vega has hold of Tiyapairat's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Tiyapairat seems comfortable defending it but Vega has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Tiyapairat is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Tiyapairat is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Vega couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Steve Vega! A relieved looking Steve Vega thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
