Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ellsworth Mayer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Adam Hayes! The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Steve Erwin and Ben Watson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hayes lands a jab to Mayer's midsection. Hayes misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mayer wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. A combination from Hayes does no damage. Hayes fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mayer to the ground. Hayes is now in Mayer's guard. Mayer keeping full guard, as Hayes tries to pass. Hayes looking to sit in guard and control but Mayer gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Mayer cracks Hayes with a solid left hand. Mayer stops Hayes from standing up. Hayes manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mayer manages to get himself to full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Mayer is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Hayes presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Mayer tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hayes smiles and moves away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hayes looking to score a takedown here. Mayer is defending well but Hayes drives through and ends up in Mayer's guard. Mayer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Hayes throws a big elbow that misses. Mayer can't keep his opponent in guard - Hayes advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Hayes trying to control from half guard but Mayer is working away. Hayes decides to stand and escape the position. Hayes throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Mayer wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Hayes rushes Mayer and presses him up against the cage. Mayer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Hayes throws a combination that misses so Mayer counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mayer throws a big elbow that misses. Mayer throws a strike but Hayes rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Mayer is pulling down on Hayes's head to control his posture. Mayer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Mayer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hayes throws a big elbow that misses. Mayer controlling Hayes's posture. Hayes wanted to stand there but Mayer had control of the position. Hayes wants to control from the top but Mayer keeps moving. Hayes trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hayes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mayer swivels though and keeps the full guard. Mayer controlling Hayes's posture. Hayes showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Mayer is adopting a defensive guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mayer throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Mayer will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hayes lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Mayer misses with a looping right. Hayes clinches up against the cage. Mayer's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Hayes lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Hayes instigates a clinch. Hayes wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Hayes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Adam Hayes dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Hayes fails to land with a series of punches.
Hayes fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mayer, pushing him back against the cage. Hayes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A jab from Hayes finds it's way through Mayer's defenses. Adam Hayes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mayer seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Hayes shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Mayer is backing up but Hayes catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Mayer covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Hayes Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Adam Hayes! During a confident post fight interview, Adam Hayes thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
