Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
20 - 14 - 1, fighting out of New York, John Fadden! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sean Juan! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Josh West and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Some wild striking there from Fadden.
Juan tries to bum rush Fadden with a series of wild strikes but Fadden uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Fadden moves out of range as Juan throws a body kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Juan. Fadden does a little dance to reset his feet. Fadden shoots in and drives through. Juan sprawls well. Juan lands a nice hook to Fadden's body. Fadden takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Juan moves out of range of the leg kick from Fadden. Fadden throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Fadden takes a head kick and keeps coming.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fadden swinging wildly here.
Fadden displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Juan throws out the jab. Fadden drops down looking for a counter takedown but Juan sprawls and moves away. Juan cracks Fadden with a good jab. Juan checks the leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fadden misses with the combination.
Juan lands a jab. Fadden fails with a takedown attempt. Juan is looking for the big counter here. Fadden doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Juan keeps Fadden at a distance using the push kick. Juan tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Fadden was well out of range. Poor timing from Juan. Juan is looking to land body kicks.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Juan connects with a jab. Fadden fails with the takedown and Juan counters with a leg kick. Fadden has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Elite Strikers in the buildup to the fight. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Fadden. That's going to take a lot out of him. Juan scores with a push kick. Juan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fadden sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Juan somewhat. Fadden gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Juan to score an easy takedown into full guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Juan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fadden is keeping the position for now. Fadden looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Juan stops Fadden from standing up. Juan is pushing down on Fadden's leg trying to pass to half guard. Fadden is fighting to maintain full guard but Juan has managed to sneak the leg through. Fadden is staying active underneath Juan, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Juan has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Fadden knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Juan on the ground. Fadden is in all sorts of trouble here.
Juan wants to control the pace but Fadden is squirming around nicely. Juan throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Fadden has his hands clasped together but Juan breaks the hold and Fadden is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Juan!
